How many 930 are still on the road in the US ?

Does anybody knows ... .

Mark Houghton 10-22-2012 07:27 PM

My guess would be more here than in the mother country....but that's just a gut feel. It should be public knowledge as to how many of each year were imported to the states, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're all still here (some have moved "home"), let alone how many have survived and are still on the road today. A person would need access to DMV records I guess.

5,431 US production cars left

Mark Houghton 10-22-2012 08:34 PM

Well there ya go! 5,431 imported. Next question: How many did the good Dr. Porsche make?

Of those 5000+ imported (back to the original question - How many 930 are still dryving in the US ?). "Driving" could be a difficult term to define. Officially licensed doesn't necessarily mean on the road. Could also include garage queen thoroughbreds that never leave the pasture. No easy answer.

2/3 my guess.

There was around 7300 US bound cars built between 1976 and 1989, I'm sure someone will count, and now 5431 are now currently registered in the US.

Does not include the Canadian cars, Euro cars, or US cars now exported or others . . .

Wow, 5,431 would indicate a 37% attrition rate. Can you determine numbers registered by year? My guess is that the '76-79's have a higher attrition rate than the '86-89's.

U.S., Total Production – 8,606
1976 – 520
1977 – 717
1978 – 451
1979 – 1190
1986 – 1427
1987 – 1756 (Coupe – 1605, Targa – 87, Cabriolet – 184)
1988 – 1313 (Coupe – 701, Targa – 141, Cabriolet – 591)
1989 – 1232 (Coupe – 639, Targa – 109, Cabriolet – 600)

Do not forget to take into account the several hundred US Turbos that have gone to Europe because of the strong European demand and weak dollar !

In 2010, I personally witnessed a Belgian gentleman come to the US on a three week buying spree and canvas this country. He hit 17 states and looked at +/- 40 early turbos.

He offered me strong prices for my cars but left my garage empty handed !

He purchased twenty five (26) Turbos from '76 - '89 and shipped them from four different ports and he did this in three weeks.

How many Turbos has the US market lost to this situation ! ? !

I'll give up my 88 turbo Cabriolet when they pry my cold dead body out of it !

Lets start a count: Ghosteh is #1, Dan Tucci is #2, and I'm #3. I'm guessing we won't get everyone to chime in.
