My first 930 was a 1978, sold it to a guy who worked for Carnival cruz lines and he took it home to Holland. Tried looking for the car twice since then with the idea of buying it back. No luck, lost the Vin. #. Any way they only made 846 (I belive) for the U.S. mkt. in 1978. So yea they are pleny collectable.

No cat; welded on rear fenders, they are as raw as the 930 gets. I would say they will be very collectable as well as a blast to drive.

^^^^ Interesting. I just never looked it up. I will have to keep an eye out if I see any '78's.

Almost all the Turbos I have seen in 930, or in 951's, were 1986's. That somehow must have been THE Turbo year in Porsches mind at the time.

The 79's are almost as rare, I think there were fewer than 1500 imported. The 86's were the first year they were permitted back in the country after a five year absence. It grew a cat. and some extra weight but had a one year only all leather interior as std. All so rear flairs were stamped rather than welded on. If you can find a nice 78 grab it or let me know.

I must be crazy though. After all the hell I have had out of these cars I should sell and get a Acura NSX or something .

But I keep thinking I will have both the 1986 930 and the 1986 951 that I have put so much work and refresh and redo into. I cant say why exactly but these appeal to me.

But I am now going to keep a eye out for those earlier Turbos too.

I guess I can always sell them later and get a newer Porsche. But it is not going to happen easy !

In 1979, there were only 1200 made for the US. My old #1176 is still in Honolulu, but may have been sold recently.

I read that too over the week and put that down in the Blk/Blk 90K thread. And the 911 refresh article. Good stuff.

Man, I'm telling y'all the 930 has a soul. The first time I layed eyes on a 81' 930 European version was a picture via email from a random guy who selling a set of Gotti wheels. I told him I'm gonna buy one but he thinks I'm fooling around. I'm just getting bored with the Supra world. I don't want thing that are superfast anymore. I want something quick, classic and has a soul.

Right now there is a 86' 930 slant nose roller on eBay. How much is it worth? Any advice will be much appreaciated.

The rocker panels don't have a jack port, a real slant would.
Although, some pre 1986 special wish cars fitted with boxed rockers did not have the ports either. Typically, a true 505 car would have the correct rockers as part of the package esp in 1986/7.
Having said that, if one could get that car for less than 10k it might be a deal.
But, once you finish pumping money into it, you will have spent enough to buy a real one, plus the resale on that car will be squat do to the history, lack of.

Most M505 optioned US spec cars are from model years '87-89. I believe they did import them before '87 but under the special wishes programs, which are probably in very low numbers...930newbie a bit of advise, do your homework, learn about the car, know what you're buying before you make the plunge..Don't buy the cheapest car buy the right car.. good luck..

I totally understand what you said, thank you. And for the car, I'll call Porsche stuttgart to verify the vin. They might have good info about that 86. Anywhere else on the frame that I can find the vin that matches the vin on the driver side label?

Driver side door pillar, trunk compartment. The black 930 in question is a euro model and probably not a true factory "flachbau". Stick with US spec cars, theyre (all things being equal) worth (in the US) more and usually they've been pampered...

Actually, they only made 451 for the US market. Lowest of any year. I was going to sell my sunroof delete car last summer, until I came to my senses.
