Help with VIN
Hello all
Found a strange 930 looking body, vin reads 9306600072, car is just a shell. No engine, no transmission.
interior dash looks like a 930 the rest is gone.
Auctioned in Greece, confiscated by authorities for smuggling.
Car will be bought with a “salvage” new vin assigned to it by local ministry.
Can anyone decode this strange vin?
(i am buying no matter what, the previous 930 I missed in a similar auction 4 years ago left a bitter taste to my mouth).
The price is right (I just need a widebody shell) so not going to miss this one.
Just curious about the vin.
thank you in advance.

this should be a 1976 turbo with carrera engine.
930 turbo
6 1976
6 carrera 7 turbo 8 turbo usa
00000xx number of boddy model year
so may be a mistake and second 6 is an 8?

if it was a carrera it would start with 911. if it was a turbo (starting with 930) it should be an 8 for the engine. so this makes no sense at all.

anyway, tomorrow is bidding day, so lets hope this one works for me.
I am not interested in an investment, my goal is to build a car I can beat around and enjoy it, so even with an irrelevant vin its ok for me.
nevertheless this vin will mean nothing after it is auctioned as it will get a “state” one (thats how it works for confiscated by the state cars over here - and that is why they are so cheap) and will be registered with that, so this car will have “zero” value in terms of originality and collectability.
My intention is to build it to my taste with bits and pieces from many models.

Bought for 14.500 € and inspected. Clearly a Carrera with a nicely done wide-body conversion.
The paperwork is right and also following the traces of the car it appears it was originally imported in 1983 with a VIN starting with 911 and the rest of the numbers lead to a 1976 3.0 vehicle.
Tying to register it again with this one.
Starting a thread to document the journey.
