Default Value of Low Milage 1979 turbo

A friend is selling a one owner 1979 turbo with less than 9000 miles. It is Guards Red with black interior.

Any ideas as to the approximate value?

Thanks

Id say $33-37K if its had all the maintenance done, looks and drives perfect, and doesnt have mice living inside the cabin. A concours person would probably jump at it because of low miles and may even pay a premium over that, but most intending to drive the car would pass on it as theyd just drive off the equity and have reservations on lack of use/receipts anyway. These cars got progressively better over the years too (evolution not revolution), and dont sit well, so the later years seem to have a wider audience (being newer).

Sounds like a great car, catering to the right kind of buyer which may require a little patience. Its in Resell Red so thats a plus! If its a true time capsule, it just takes one "right kind of buyer" to get the price asked. Buyers market however. Times are still rough out there.

Sloan would probably list it for $60K and negotiate from there.

The last one I know of here in Southern California sold for 40. It was a 79 as well. Under 10k miles.

I heard that it was actually a +/-1500 mile car (in a rare PTS color) which is a whole different category than a +/- 10,000 Red car !

That same guy paid $55k for a 7000 mile (white, non SR ) 1st year '76 car.

Both of these cars are less common and far more sought after colors than red which is the most common "sports car" color in the world.

Exactly one year ago, I paid $40k for a documented two owner red '79 with +/- 20k miles and the original window sticker.

The owner can ask a million bucks or what ever he wants, but in this economy this car should be in the +/- 45k range if he is the original owner, has all documents to validate the mileage, and he truly wants to sell it.

Good luck with the sale !

Your friend is selling a "1 owner" or he is the 1st (original) owner ?

I ask this because I have a vintage Corvette friend that has owned a "1 owner" '63 split-window for 9-10 years. He has not and will not register the car in his name because he wants it to remain a "1 owner" car on the original title and paper work.

In the corvette world a "1 owner" car can change hands many times and technically stay a "1 owner" car for decades by playing this game !

Technicality but BIG difference !

Alan,

If you want to forward our information to your friend we would be happy to put our two cents in and make him a fair offer. It sound like our kind of car.

Brian, thanx for the plug.

Everything I hear is music to my ears as far as these values. Maybe the market is finally starting to make the big jump like the 914s and early 911T/E/Ss did 5-7 years ago.

Of course, asking price and selling price are two different things. Still, encouraging perhaps.

If you are going to entertain offers, be sure to get several opinions. I would talk to Sloan. He has some of the best low mileage cars. It would be interesting to see what the offer would be and if you sold it what they ask for it. I would not sell it for less than $50k assuming the mechanicals (head studs?) are in order.

A red 87 930 w 8000 miles just sold at auction for $77,000. So you can see the low milage cars are starting to bring some good money in....
