To Keep or to Sell (993 vs 930)? Opinions/Advice Wanted
I came up with really long-winded post initially, but my question really isn't that complicated.
I've always had an affinity for the 930, yet never owned one. Somehow I ended up with a 993 (which is NOT a bad thing).
I love seeing the 993 in the garage, but wonder if I'd like the 930 a little bit more.
The 993 needs some TLC (paint, gaskets for oil leak & seat re-dye). I have the money set aside to provide that TLC along with some wheels, suspension, RS bits and a few other odds & ends.
Should I keep the 993 and spend the dollars on it, or would I be better off selling it in the low 20's and taking my extra cash to find a nice, sorted out 930?
I've thought about this way too much, and either one would work for me knowing what I currently know . I've found a lot of wisdom, along with some other stuff , on the board since I joined and maybe there's something I'm missing in the equation.
Any input would be appreciated. I've cross-posted this on the 993 board as well.
Thanks,
TX

Have you driven a well sorted out 930? I presume you have, which will make answering your own question easier.
I do not have the pleasure of ever driving a 993, so can offer no comparison. The 993 guys will probably consider you stupid for jumping ship, but the 930 guys - being the twisted cult that we are - would opt for the more raw sportscar attraction and timeless appearance that the 930 offers.

Daily driver. Value it a lot in Texas, but think I know where to set my expectations.
Nope. I've driven a nice 3.2 and I get the more "raw" feel that others talk about. I just haven't experienced the boost.
That was my original attraction.

There is really only one answer IMHO ... you must drive and experience first hand 1, 2 or as many 930's as possible. The 930 and 993 are just different enough to make it a significant change you should be fully aware of before making such an important decision.

^^ Good advice!
Frank-- It's an easier decision for me than most
This was the best of both worlds & my favorite 930 I ever had the pleasure of driving:

Thanks for the replies. I think it's going up for sale next week. If I get no takers that it'll be a sign that I should keep it and go to town with the changes I want to make. If it sells quickly then the hunt is on.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

i own both and they are different animals in their entirety. my advice is to drive a 930 if you have the means, its not for everyone... that being said if you are used to the creature comforts the 993 provides, (easy 6 speed transmisson, easy clutch, power steering etc) then keep the 993 if you want to work a little drive the 930 i personally like the solid no nonsense feel of the 930. as far as the ac is concerned i retrofitted a new ac system to the 930 running r134a and its colder than a toyota. there are many competent ac systems that can be fitted to the older 911s that dramatically improve the ac. as always if considering one of these cars remeber they are 21 years old at best and issues will arise you may not have to deal with in the 14 year old 993, my advice keep the 993 and buy a 930 if funds and the wife permit.

Can't wait for the follow up to this....
I am in the process of building mine now. I have only driven one 930 and it was in 1993, and oddly enough, it is the car that I am building. Good luck with your hunt for a 930, there are allot of good deals these days.
