Spark plug/spark plug wire
On a modified 1978 930, what are the best spark plugs and spark plug wire for it? From what I read it looks like the Bosch WR6DPO to be the number one contender but I rather go with a Iridium spark plug, they seem to have better review and performance. As of the spark plug wire, the Magnecor seem to have a lot of BUzz but should we go for it? Are my braided wire better or lesser performance? A thought what about keeping my braided wire and just changing the spark plug connectors? How often are the spark plug wire suppose to be change or can you keep it as long as it is doing a good job?
I was thinking of making high quality 11MM spark plug wire and using high quality ends. What are your thoughts?

Magnecor is definitely the way to go. You can beat new technology. The braided ones look nice and will also do the job.
Regarding plugs I don't remember what I am using right now. I know i switched from the stock W3DPO plug because they are too cold. I think I am using the Bosch W3CS plugs. They are hotter than the stock plugs.
When I chose those plugs I did alot of research on this forum and that seemed to be a good choice at the time over a year ago.

Thank you for your feedback but Millhaus and Last930 what do you think of me making 11MM spark plug wire with high quality ends? How about iridium spark plugs from NGK vs Platinum which one is better?

I don't know what type of ignition you plan on running but with a stock set up 8.5mm is more than fine. I don't know about the iradium plugs.
Magnecor are race tested wires with new materials and technology. The braided wires will work fine and look nice but I prefer to trust 30 years of advancement of the new wire technology vs. relying on what was good 30 years ago. IMO

I would suspect they would both work fine. I doubt you would see much, if any, difference in power on a dyno between the 2 sets of wires. Assuming that's true (IMO only) I would pick the set that will last the longest in the environment they are used - a very hot engine compartment. If my new braided wires last as long as the old set, my car will be 50 years old when they next need to be replaced. I'll probably be too old to know the difference by then!!

Last930,
What is IMO?
So you guys do not think I should custom make a high quality 11MM wire that we could even put a fire sleeve on them to make them last as long as our original braided ones? And you do not think that I would gain any performance?

OK i have a set of magancore wires and I am not happy with them. They are loose fitting on the plugs I am never really sure if they are connected well. The dust caps are of poor quality and distorted from the heat after only a couple weeks. I was considering making my own next time around sort of like Henry Schmidt does at supertech. I think he makes them from morroso blue max bulk wire. The magancores in my opinion are good technology implimented by poor construction. I made my own once before many years ago from blue max wire and covered them with fire braid on an off road jeep with a chevy small block in it. I had been having problems with spark plug wires melting on the headers, and also mud and water intrusion. They were much better than anything I could buy at the time and lasted several years until the jeep was wrecked.

I'm very pleased with my Clewett Engineering set. No affiliation, just an IMHO (in my humble opinion).

I've got the Magancore wires and had one of the rubber boots split and fall of within a couple of years. Still runs great, but they shouldn't fall apart. And I agree with Ken, they are hard to tell when they are seated properly and the seals warp with heat. I don't know what I'll get next time.
25 year old wires may work, but are they working as good as new? That's something to check every few years.
It was posted on Pelican that Clewett Engineering wires may be re-badged Magnecore wires?
