I just saw Wayne's '89 cabo 930 with 37,000 miles on it go for only $50,000 on Barret Jackson auction. That's not good news for our market. The car was silver pearl with a black top and Ruf wheels with a few typical mods and the guys on stage both have Pcars said that it was a beauty. It is a one owner car with all of its history available. Thats almost the going rate for a real nice low mile car without the provononce that this car had.

yes it did look stunning, with the bj fee they actually paid $55,000 and the owner received $45,000, 10% bj fee for both

BJ is all about muscle cars today!People there don't know good cars.That car was awesome,low miles.If it was a low mileage ,american,mass produced hunk of metal it would go for 100,000!I didn't watch that much,they don't show that many p-cars any more.I wouldn't worry about the price because i love my car and don't care to sell it.not on muscle car auction !!!!

My favorite part of BJ, was when Jay Leno got up on stage to sell off the #1 of the new ZR-1 corvette line and said he loved his z06 and then commented how well made Porsche cars are compared to the rest...

Yes, that was a nice plug by Jay. His comment was something to the regards of how the two cars that always seem to come out ahead in car mag comparos are the Porsche and the Corvette.

Back to the OP. So how much is provenance worth? Personally, maybe because I'm a cheap b@stard, I wouldn't part with too many extra of my hard-saved dollars just because someone famous owned the item in the past (excepting some sort of racing pedigree). I'd be more interested in the mechanical history of the car. But $50K for an '89 cab with only 37K miles (albeit sans PPI) is a little bit on the low side. Not shockingly so, but I woulda thought it would have sold for a few thousand more. 'Course, B-J is not the right arena to find that type of buyer, for this car.

Both Kelley Blue book and N.A.D.A. values for a car like this are in the 33-52K range, so I think the price was right on! I agree with Noah, provenance means squat, unless you're talking about racing history. The car was very nice, someone made a good buy.

I have to agree with Mike on this one. BJ has created the market for American Muscle and Resto rods. They have combined with Speed to produce a very long reality show( I still have 8 hours to watch on Tivo). When early Pontiac GTOs are regularly up around the 6 figure mark we are talking feeding frenzy. It slices 2 ways anything foreign is not going to do well(Ferraris,Porsches,and Bentleys were in used car territory) there forget about driving experience etc. this is social oneupmanship(or still trying to score with the cheerleader in High School who wouldn`t give you a second look). I have driven a few of 60s phenoms lately and they are horrible--really bad from cornering and roadability standpoint and since I`m and old guy I remember them as being sensational(I`ll stick with the memory).
RM or Russo and Steele would be a better venue. We just watched a crazy spectacle--my question: what happened to midyear big block Vettes and how about the skyrocket prices on any Vette from 56-62(C2)?

Barrett Jackson = Schill Bidding \ Boiler Room Operation, all the muscle car guys who used to afford that '70 Charger project can no longer pursue, further more guys who actually own a muscle car, think they own the Blood Diamond. In my opinion BJ stands for one thing last word "Job", first word rhymes with "Glow".

bj has made the market untouchable for the average person. they have created a monster its great for the seller but try to buy a nice old muscle car and you might have to remorgage your house. oooooooooooo and by the way +1 with slownrusty...............

The prices at Barrett Jackson seemed substantially lower overall this year to me. I agree that non-racing provenance does not mean much with these cars, but rarity does- just look at the Flachbau 964 prices recently. Porsche made a lot of 930's- the rarity and value comes with special orders/editions.
