well put it up for sale then. I know first hand that a local 86 turbo with 50k miles went for $45k. all original, all records.

It's not a bad offer (much better than $22k), but there could be many things at play -- namely the person is in no rush to sell and just doesn't need to take anything less than his asking price. Or he might have Excellence market update (or equivalent) open when you call and he might consider his 47k mile example "Excellent."

GOOD LUCK!!
couldn't have said it better.

thanks matt and pete...i just feel good about it because its missing the trademark side signal markers. I would just feel horrible if i got duped into getting something unoriginal. you think 47k miles is a lot of miles? how much more can i put on before it totally dies on me?

When you have it inspected he should be able to give you a better idea if it has been repainted if you can't tell. I don't think 47k is alot of miles for those cars.

Agree with mdurbahn -- 47k is not much at all. Mine has 62k and is immaculate. IF the car has been treated well (allowing proper warm-up and cool-down, not tracked day in and day out, etc) you should be very fine with 47k. Also, if the side-marker situation checks out (ie the '79s didn't have them) it sounds promising. But GET A PPI.

Another thing to add- the federalized Euros will have an additional black and silver vin plate glued to the upper drivers side corner of the dash. These cars the miles will be accurate. If memory is correct cars that were converted / imported with miles already on them diid not get this plate. I.E I owned a car with 35K on the odometer and then imported it to the US. A new speedo was added in MPH but would of started out at 0 miles basically turning back the clock. Documentation in cases like these becomes very important to realize the true miles.

I too agree on the 26-28K price range. Not many good examples ever go for less than 30s but I'm sure they are out there. Something else to consider is a euro will not pass emissions in some places. Not a problem for me but for the west coasters I have heard issues. Maybe the age will exempt it..?

Good luck- Mike

good point on mileage, need to be sure it has all the documentation before and after the federalization to verify the miles are accurate. otherwhise it could have been set to zero whenever it was brought over.

Matt,

Nice Avatar

If you're wondering about the fenders, you can also cheat and check behind the carpet/liner under the hood. The car should still have it's color code sticker in place on the right front fender. It's located towards the front. If it does, at least you know that chances are good that it's the original fender (for that side). It's possible it could have been left in place and resprayed... but it'll give you a warm fuzzy at least GL!

Not surprising. Sometimes you have to pay for emotional attachment as well... Hope you find one that meets your desires in your price range.

Micah, figured it was time for a change. I've seen stupid people for years now...
