Rear wheel and tire size on a 930
I have a 1978 930 turbo-look (aftermarket conversion done in 1990). I recently purchased this car and noticed that the rear wheels seem a bit small in the wheel wells (they dont come right to the edge of the fender). I have no idea how wide the rims are, but the tires are 245 45 16 which are the same as what is on the front.
My questions are:
1. What size of rear rim and tire came stock on the 930?
2. Is there a spacer or some way to make the wheels I have come closer to the edge of the fender (I assume some spacer was added at the time of the conversion to push the wheels cause they don't look rediculously inset.
You can kind of see what I am talking about in this picture.

I have 9" rims on the rear and they use the same 245 size you have, it may be that you have 9" fronts? They are basically the most sort after wheel on a 930, i don't have any advise but if you have 4 x 9" wheels you should maybe sell a pair and put some bigger wheels on the back and pocket the change! I'm sure there are other options but it looks like you're holding the cards (so to speak)

Sounds as though you should have some custom made wheels. This way you will not need any spacers.
Remember that up front you want the center of your new custom made wheel (when viewed from above) exactly where your original stock wheel was. The rear is unimportant, place your wheel as far out as you want. I run 285's on the rear with only 225's up front and the rear end can still come out while cornering when the boost comes on in the dry. I have a LSD.

the pictures depict 7" fronts and 9" rears...that is normal. what i believe he is speaking of is how the rear 245/45/16's look a bit small and poorly matched (cosmetically) w/ the 225/50/16 fronts/
i agree. is a 245/50/16 an alternative? any experience or phots w/ the 50 series tire on the rear?
thanks.

Being 18" wheels, I am assuming these aftermarket? Weren't the 16" wheels what came stock? My car has 245's on both the front and the rear, so I would assume that they are oversized tires on 9" wheels. So by looking at the back of your car, it looks like the 11" wheels would look best.

From these pictures, as stated above, your car does have different size (width) rims front and rear, you can see the difference in offset, which I would guess are 7"/9" rims which are stock for the 3.3 930's. It does not look like the front tires are hanging over the rim, which I think would happen if you had 7's with 245's???. Are you sure they aren't 225's??? Also, check to see it you have wheel spacers on the front (should not), and that you also have the correct spacers on the rear, this could explain the front's sticking out.

I think you are right about my front tires. According to my appraisal, they are 205's, not 245. I have not checked the car to confirm. The funny thing is from behind the cars, the rears just look too small in terms of width.

Turbo and factory Turbo look cars have the same banana arms, brakes etc.. Basically, a factory Turbo look car is a 930 without the turbo motor. It has the 3.2 Carrera motor instead.. and was available with any option that was offered on the 930.

There is a company in CA which is producing the Fuchs style wheel in various rim and width sizes. It is a very good knock-off and many guys are using them on RS and RSR conversion. My understanding is that they will or currently offer a 16 x 11... although tire choices will be limited, this might be something to look into to get the proper look you're after. I believe the company is Roto Fox.
