Sway bar setup for 77 930?????

My front swaybar runs underneath the car and connects to A arms, is this just an early setup, most sway bars I have seen run through the body and have adjustable end links? Jamie

The earlier cars had the sway bars that went through the body. IIRC, it was about 73 they switched to the under body style.

Sorry.. 73 had through the body also... although it was an option on some cars through 79 or 80.
You either had through the body bars or nothing. On Turbos.. was standard.

Believe the switch came in the early 80's

On that 77 the A arms have been swapped for a later style. I would swap them back!

As far as I know this car is all original unmolested!!!!

So I don't think anything was changed out. Trying to keep all original, with a few sensible upgrades, such as ignition, turbo, and brakes, things I can put back to stock. Jamie

just looked at the PET catalog, and it shows the through body style up to 73. After that, it the under body style. I was looking at the Pelican site before. No word on options.

Hmmm,

But the pet does not list options or option codes... I have had later cars with factory through the body sways. However, in looking through some of my parts after reading and commenting in this thread, I did run across a 77 front end which which had the later style "under the car" bars. And I looked at an 83 that I built for a friend.. and he has the "under the car" bars as well.

I would still have to maintain that the through the body bar was available later than 73 as an option. Again, I've had several later 911s with this, and it was not aftermarket.

The 1976 930 was the ONLY 930 that came with a front thru the body sway bar.

From 77 onward, the simple design was used. It was a cost cutting move.

You can check Paul Frere's book for details, I can give you the page number if you need it.

As far as being optional on later than 76 cars, I am unaware of this option and cannot confirm or deny that it is possible, however my opinion is that people simply added the front thru the body bar aftermarket on later cars. Again, I am not clear on this. I will take another look at the Frere book to see if he mentions factory options.
