1/4 Mile Times....

As you know, the trouble with getting a good time or even being "competative" in a drag race is getting off the line. I don't know how the long geared 930 4spd fellas do it but with a 915 you really have to walk a narrow line between blowing the tires and blowing the tranny. I launched soft and then stabbed the throttle and short shifted into second as quickly as I could. 60ft times were blistering at over 2 seconds.

not bad times for cars that are 20+ years old.
just an FYI my lil subaru ran 13.6@99.5 with a 1.8 60' this is with a very conservative ECU tune, stock turbo, intercooler, injectors. Only some exhaust work has been done.
It will be a while (next year I hope) till I have a P-car to play with.
Keep the times comming.

Sorry gentlemen, but I unfortunately have nothing to report as of yet. My Grandfather was found at his home extremely ill the week I was supposed to go with my friends. He has been in the hospital ever since and I have not touched the 930 but one time and that was to clear my head. Needless to say she is sitting in the garage uncovered and dusty.
Enough of that...when I do go, I will post up my results!!!
The car is going to the shop next Tuesday to get a tune & locate a potential boost leak...then I will be on my way!!! As for launch technique, I am going to lauch only marginally harder than I do from a spirited street stoplight. I am confident that my car will make up the difference by mid to 3/4 track. The goal here is to have a good time and establish a baseline. I KNOW that these are not dragstrip weapons (I have a Vette for that), but the thought of accelerating full throttle through at least three gears to over 100mph in a controlled environment WITHOUT FEAR of 5-0 is tempting!
P.S. - To the posters who don't even own a 930 and never have, I would greatly appreciate it if you did not "dog me out" for choosing to run my car. You will not find a more babied car than mine, and she lives the kind of life I could only imagine. Your feedback is EXTREMELY welcome, but your advice on the nature of these cars and what not to do with them lacks substance. Thanks.

Hey it's your car and your money. If you want to bust every part in it it's your business. You won't know the limitations until you exceed them.
Sorry to hear about your gradfather, that's a tough one.

My father has a 79 930 with k27, complete B&B exhaust, intake and 1bar boost I never ran it but I would guess around 13.0 @110-113 judging by how i beat a Subaru Wrx STI, tied a supercharged Saleen and my past drag racing experience. I would guess a good trap speed but not so goo of an ET due to long gears and lots of lag.....

My experience with drag racing 911 s or my supercharger 928gt is to rev the engine about 10 % past its torque peak on the line and quickly let out the clutch without flooring the throttle at the same time. Let the clutch fully engage before going full throtte (about 1/10 of a second) and you can easily do a sub 2.0 60 ft time . If you go full power to early you will smoke the clutch.
