Can't find seal for wastegate

While I was changing the wastegate membrane I took the whole thing apart.
Between the bottom finned cast iron(?) and the top aluminium part there was something that looked like a seal that totally disintegrated by slight touch.

Looks like a thick seal of about half an inch.

At Porsche Center the treat the whole waste gate as one part.
Anyone know where I can find such as seal or what type of material this seal is made of.

Oh no! That seal is not available. I have tried for years. I hate to be the one to tell you, but you need a new wastegate.

Yeah,that's really bad news..
By the look of the old seal, it's hard to grasp that there is nothing I can replace that damaged seal with that would make things worse, but since you really know your stuff I am about to :crying:

I had our National Porsche Center to write an email to Porsche germany about this, I hope to get information on what material the stock seal is made of, am I in denial ?

I friend of mine is in the states over christmas, it's a longshoot but he might be able to pick up a Tial wastegate for me, is it 46 mm ?

The problem is the heat. Everything burns out and it still has to seal the air flow as well. If you find something let me know. I have a box of dead ones.

Oh, yes the Tial is a 46mm.

Just out of curiosity, what is the harm if that gasket leaks? The valve would have to be open anyway, so you're just allowing exhaust to leak out an unintended path, but not losing boost. Am I missing something?

Yes the hole will not allow the pressure side of the wastegate to push the spring back. You over boost and that leads to nothing good.

Howa about this place: Custom Gaskets. They appear to sell custom made gaskets. Might be an option.

Still haven't heard from Porsche about what material they use for the stock gasket.
But I don know that a heated (not using the right word here) copper gasket works, at least in one case.
Also looking into the possibility of using a compressed graphite (not sure about the right english words again) gasket.
Found a few local companies specializing in custom gaskets.

Will update this thread with my findings.

I am worried about the overboost possibility, but for next season I will have an LCD with boost reading on top of the steering wheel housing, will look at it at the straightaways. My EBC will also beep and drop pressure if I overboost, not sure I will here it though with no sound proofing, monoballs, Cup dampers, muffler by-pass and helmet, but that's another story...

The custom gaskets might work. It just needs to put up with the heat and seal. The original gasket was a layered asbestoses I believe. I do not suggest a scratch and sniff :DI have never seen one that wasn't toasted so I can't say 100% what it was setup like.

The leyered asbestoese make sense, the material I removed with a rotating steel brush was layered allright, and it smelled funny... :banghead:
Remeber thinking it might not be a smart thing to do without a mask.

I think there is a Law Firm that has a class action law suit for Porsche owners that have asbestoese posioning from destroying their wastegate seals.
I think it's the same firm that is sueing fast food resturants for serving fatty foods.
Really, good luck. My P-car is out of service as well.

Explained the application for an expert at a gasket company.
He suggested a material called ISOPLAN 1000.
It can handle 1.800 F and 3 bars of pressure.
