My plan was to build inside out. I built the bottom end for big power later. I used Pauter rods, JE pistons, full finned 98mm cylinders, twin plug, etc. The problem is I started adding all the outside stuff to make big horsepower. As I'm nearing the end I'm buying all the silicone hoses and fuel fittings and I'm close to spending another grand on them. I was a little off on that part of the budget.

I agree that the oil pump should be big enough. I didn't change my piston squirters. I figure I can keep the temps in check with a big intercooler, rich AFR, and correct timing.

BTW, I put the engine in last night!!!!!!!!!!! I'll probably have to pull it out again for something, but maybe not. On to the intercooler, intake plumbing, and wiring.

Finish that thing already, will ya??? I can't wait to see it, and to see how bad it smokes mine with it bolt-on build up that I did when I bought it. It is time to get our 930s together for a nice run up here in the hill country!

if you use too much Loctite 574 when assembling the case halves (especially if applied too thick at the main bearing saddles), YES!!!

Just discovered this board yesterday and am no expert. But last year when my '85s engine went south with 111,000 hard miles on it.
The local Porsche Dr. convinced me to go with the Mahle Ps & Cs 3.3 to 3.4L compression from 7.5 to about 8.1, sent the heads off to Memphis Motor Werks (Leo Goff supposed to be one of the best), K-27, Porsche Race Gate 1.2 Bar I think, Andail Intercooler and Electronic Fuel Enrichment, The car already had Euro headers and exhaust. He say's the brighter you burn a candle, the faster it burns out! So we tried to find a balance between performance and durability. It wasn't cheap, but hopefully it will keep me happy for years to come.

That's why some builders don't apply it to the webbing. Why would you? I've seen good rebuilds taken apart and the 574 measured .010. All that work to make sure the main bearing and crank were perfect just went out the door.

I did not use it on my last rebuild and still no leaks (not that it's there to prevent leaks anyway).

125shifter - congrats on the installation. Any predictions on turning the key? I was amazed at how much the incidentals cost on my EFI project.

Thanks for your reply.

I was also wondering whether muck in the oil could block the squirters ?

I have had my spray bars for the valvegear block on my 3.2 carrera. I unblocked them with a pin while the engine was running. Messy job.

Default SC cams

As a rookie owner, could I get clarification on one thing mentioned above? In a 3.3 turbo will "simple" substitution of SC cams for stock increase low/mid pull somewhat? I drive mainly between 2000-5000 rpm and would appreciate a bit more punch, especially pre-boost, without extensive/expensive mods. This anticipates the future, when my car may well become Mr. Oily's little brother.

The SC cams are meant to make the boost come on earlier. I have no idea what it does to power at say 1000rpm.

I would like to know this also.

TIA

55, if you have a stock engine, there are other things I recommend before cams. Such as exhaust.

Correct, exhaust (no pun) all the bolt on upgrades first. Consider going into the motor IE cams at the end of the list.

In answer to your question, yes it is the best off the shelf cam for low and mid range. It is done at about 5600RPM.

Once you have all the bolts ons and want a little more upper rom power, what cam would you go with? At the track, I never go lower than 2nd gear or probably 3000 rpms. I do some occasional street drivng, but don't really get on it there.

EFI - 964 cams (mild build) or EVO cams (heavily modified) or hybrid for very specific applications
CIS - 964 cams

Stephen - Appreciate the answer. Like the cams, I'm about done at 5600rpm, too.
