wow ive just been through the meefi website and if you know electronics and mechanics then youll be fine... i will search into each of the ecus beforehand before making a desicon, the MegaSquirt is a risk but I am willing to learn, not just because its cheaper (initially) from what ive read... you can tune the car so much without a dyno first to get it running ok if not pretty close, so i think if im smart enough to not blow my engine! ill try it, if all else fails then its only cheap ecu, but i like a challenge! im not going to dive in just yet anyway.

Theres a bunch of fuel/ignition aids on the 965. One is a Alititute compensator- something ive never heard of as an input into these ECUs so far - if it makes a big difference to the fuel then theres another input ineed to think about.

From what ive read about the ignition timing on my car... its determines optimun firing point with inputs of engine load, engine speed, temp, intake air , 0deg trottle switch and fuel selector. So therefore would i be right saying that this would then retard the timing under boost? if so then i could not worry about the ignition for the moment.

I am mainly concered how to plumb and wire it all up to our motors, tony doesnt use the TPS and uses the MAP instead which seems to give exactly the same output required needed -shown from a NA engine but i dont know if it will be different on our turbo engines. The 965 has only switches on the throttle - 0deg, 7deg & 66deg, again either this is ok to use or the throttle body needs to be modified (like Pat Williams does)

Lots of questions but i think if you do your homework and shop around you could get a very affordable solution of efi'ing our motors and it is the only way forward.

Miles965UK, If you plan on going EFI/Standalone, why not contact Alan at DTA in the UK. DTA offers a great system for the 911, and being in the UK is a plus in your case.

I documented my DTA EFI conversion on the Pelican Parts forum. You will see there is a lot more too it than just buying an ECU. The project was very rewarding and with the DTA it is very easy to get it running and tuned to a reasonable state. Eventually no matter which system you go with it will need to go on a dyno to get the most out of it.

Hi folks. Thought I'd chime in this thread.

As mentioned the BITZ Racing CIS to EFI kit doesn't directly work with the 930 due to the differences between how the 930 CIS injectors fit into the intake compared to the 911.

However Mark (http://www.hargettprecision.com/EFIBlock.htm) has solved this problem and developed the fuel rails and injector blocks. I can supply the ECU, wire harness and other bits that should allow one to covert the 930 to EFI.

This will require someone with a DIY attitude to convert (it won't be plug-and-play), but all the hard work has been done between Mark, myself and the MegaSquirt community.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony,
How much are you asking for the ECU itself?

Miles, I did Motec on my 965 in the UK.

I really would not consider an option that didn't give control over ignition. My Motec conversion was close to £15k with a few other upgrades, but could be done for a LOT less if you were to keep stock intake/intercooler etc.... You could then upgrade these later.

You know as well as I do, this is a very slippy slope, and once this is done you'll be looking for the next thing. With Motec you have the base to expand. PM me if you need details.

The problem with the Package being sold including the Motec is that you feel like you are being steam rolled. The cost is way to high to comparative HP gain. If the dollar to HP ratio were much more agreegis, then I believe people would not hesitate to upgrade. Spending $10,000 just for an EFI system is ludacris. The 930 has chassis limitations, and you get very close on CIS. Is an extra 100 ponies worth $10,000. Brent 930 did a decent job with his CIS system and reached a pinnacle of 450 RWHP which is amazing. Just as a reminder, look at the difficult time Geoffrey had selling his car with a sticker of $50,000.00. Did he put more into the car than that in dollars, yes. Was the car worth the price. I am sure of it. Are most people willing to make that sacrifice. No.... That is why the High cost EFI kits are so hard to swallow.

The thing you have to remember with the Motec (M600) is that it is so much more than an EFI ECU. Now if you are never going to use any of those extra features then fine, go the cheaper route.

Also, I never once considered what the retail value of my car is. If its only point in life was to transport me from A - B, then maybe, but this is a Toy and a Hobbie. I get so much fun from being part of its evolution that i'm happy to pay up.

To date I have probably spent £25k on mods, I have £3k+ of RS interior coming next week, and in July a £15k 3.4 twin plug rebuild coming.

I could have bought a 996tt for that money or a fully built car like Geoffrey's, but then i'd miss out on the part that is the most fun.

For the record the first thing I did with Christmas presents as a child was to take them a part to see how they worked....
