Default 930 Gas Mileage ???

Hi I have an 86 930. It has been modified and supposedly puts out about 400hp (there is no emmissions equipment on the car and it has CIS Injection. It has a 4 speed transmission. I was wondering what kind of gas mileage I should expect to get with it around town. I got about 16.5 on the highway on a recent trip but am getting very poor mileage around town (around 12). Is that normal?

I get about 3 mpg at the track with my '87 930 with about 400 rwhp, so your looking pretty good from here. LOL

Eman,
that sounds about right compared to my 79 930 with euro exhaust, kokeln i/c, k27, etc. Lower compression than n/a 911 = lower mpg. Hope all else is well.

The sticker on my '79 said 12mpg... and that is pretty much what I get.

You know, i think with these cars, if you have to ask, you dont love the car enough.

(unless of course you want to know because you need to find out how far you can run from the cops before you run out of gas. Heh)

Default Thanks for the input to all!

Thanks for the feedback friends!

I am trying to get a read on things to verify that all is well since the car is new to me and I have very little detail on the exact engine mods, etc. She seems to be running like a top but I was curious since I have a modified 951 (944 Turbo) as well and it gets 21 around town and 27+ on the highway and it too is blisteringly fast.

Based on what you all told me, it seems about right.

Best regards!

When I bought my 930 from the previous owner he said that he got about 15 mpg with normal driving and about 7 mpg or so with very spirited driving.

The average around town is 11-12 MPG. I get 17 on long trips to the track, then bring that down to 6-8 MPG while on the track. CIS is not very effcient especially on a turbo. Constant Injection Sysytem means gas is always injected to all cyclinders.

In the 79 930 I get around 9-10 mpg local ( mix of stop and go and some hwy driving) , and about 18-20 on the road at 60-80 mph. The '02 911 turbo has averaged 17.3 mpg for the last 3,000 miles of mixed driving - shows what modern technology can do. Now let's see, the' 02 cost about $80,000 more than the 79 is worth, divided by $2.30/gallon, so I'll be ahead of the game once I get past the next 1,288,000 miles in the '02!!! Maybe I should have been an accountant!

When I picked up my 3.3 turbo targa (factory specs) in Melbourne and drove 12.5 hours back to Sydney I got just above 20mpg (back of an envelope calculation based on fuel purchased and estimated distance). Mostly cruising along at 110 km/h, but a few sections where I had some fun.

Would the quality of fuel make much of a difference?

Hi:

Wow, that's pretty good. I imagine that you have the Motronic system (what year is your car) vs the CIS Injection system and that is probably the reason you got the better mileage.

Fuel Octane number is an indicator of the fuels resistance to detonation (the higher the number the higher the resistance). It would only impact your fuel mileage if you were using fuel with such a low Octane number that the Engine Management system sensed knock (more modern day vehicles equipped with a knock sensor) and retarded your ignition enough to cope with the knock and as such your fuel mielage would then suffer.

Best regards!

Hi:

Killing is your business eh?!

Why do you say I don't love the car enough? I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't like the car. I'm just a little unfamiliar with it and figure all the people on this site with much more knowledge and experience can help me out.

Did your dad ever buy you one like you were saying?
