The rear offset on the banana arms is set back almost an 1.25inch. I have done a ton of these conversions and they can come out fine. I wouldn't do it because it is cheaper, because it is not. Do it because you enjoy the hunt of research for proper information and the ability to recreate something wonderful that the factory did.

If you have a short nose 930 tranny it is a 930/30-930/33

So if it was an 86 turbo it would have had the longer bell housing..........and you didnt modify the mounting points. So we have proof that the engine and box fit a 911 without any modifications, don't we?

Stephen, I am realy interested in what you have to say about this, how do you get around the 1.25 inch diference in rear offset?

Will the arms just bolt to a stock 911? if you do this what effect will it have?

Thanks

They will bolt right to the original points. I just had an 83 in here we did that to. Also the long noise will not fit because of the mount points of the engine. The one thing you will also notice is the rear shelf as others have said is different. Makes for one heck of a tight fit. A 915 or early 930 box will fit and bolt right in without any modifications to the engine mounts or tranny mount points. If you want to use the 78-88 930 4 speed you will have to cut the bell housing, change the mounts or cut the torsion tube out and go 965 style. The older trannies are not impossible to get and do work well. If you have a 86 turbo body then there are no issues. Bolt and go.

Hello BJ,

It seems you still think that the 3.3 turbo engine and long trans will fit in a non turbo chassis....

Let me say again...it will not fit...

As Stephen and I have said, you will have to cut down the stock 3.3 turbo trans, or find a short 76-77 turbo trans, or move the mounts...

The rear arms do not interchange between the 911 and 930 chassis without modification to the chassis...

In order to put 930 arms into a 911 chassis you have to fabricate an inner mount for the shorter 930 arm....

OK, good luck...

Calm down my freind this is a discussion forum after all...........

What you are saying about the rear suspension contradicts what Stepen has said:

My quetsion:

"Will the arms just bolt to a stock 911? if you do this what effect will it have?"

His answer:

"They will bolt right to the original points. I just had an 83 in here we did that to."

All I am looking for is clarification as I have two different answers, is that fair?

Barry

Barry,
While you can physically bolt the rear suspension arms of a 930 to the 911 shell, they would be all wrong. No ifs, ands or butts...
The pickup point on the torsion bar tube is in a different location.

Hi

Sorry to re-visit this one, but I have one question I really need answered; I have quoted a couple of things below:

me:

"Stephen, I am realy interested in what you have to say about this, how do you get around the 1.25 inch diference in rear offset?
Will the arms just bolt to a stock 911? if you do this what effect will it have?

Thanks"

"The rear arms do not interchange between the 911 and 930 chassis without modification to the chassis...

Two different answers from two very knowledgable people, can I please heave some clarification?

Thanks in advance

This is what you need to do to get the proper geometry.

Porsche PHD? I was really looking for clarification as you had the 1983 model that you did a straight bolt on to.
