Thanks very much for the info on the car, I have enjoyed it quite a bit over the years. It still looks and runs great. I have replaced mostly just wear items with a few exceptions: Thermal reactors swapped out for B&B headers, K27 turbo when the original K26 blew a seal, muffler changed for a euro version when it developed leaks, a carrera oil cooler in place of the trombone cooler in the rf fender, oil fed cam chain tensioners, lowered and corner-weighted suspension, original radio changed to Sony. I have kept everything that came off the car with the exception of filters, plugs and brake pads. About two years ago I had the engine resealed and new synchros put in trans. I have always stored it winters so it's never seen salt. It is still a gas to drive !

What color is 1200, I have 1070 and it's metallic black. I'm curious if anybody knows about differences between the early 79 930 and the later build 79's. Someone was telling me the later cars had some differences.

Do you know what VIN# in 1979 the adjustable headlight bezels were installed? The 1979 Porsche 930 in "Porsches for the Road", Henry Rasmussen, #1130, does not have the adjustable headlight bezels.
My car has them and I was mistakenly told in the past that they were not original to my car.
In the book, "Orginal Porsche 911", Peter Morgan, for the 911 SC, is has the date for the 85mph speedometers and flush headlight washers as Aug 79. The Aug 79 date lines up with the September 1, 1979 law that regulated speedometers to 85mph with special emphasis on the number 55. For 1979 930's, this probably happened around VIN 800 (820 has a production date of 8/79).
As for the adjustable headlight bezels, the 1980 911 SC Weissach had them but I'm not sure how many were actually made in 1979?

A fact about the "last 50 1979 930 turbos" that was told to me by a very knowlegeable old school Porsche rep, was that Porsche purposely mixed up the last 50 vin numbers, so nobody would really know who had the very last one. The last one(not the last vin number) went to Al Holbert. Al had ordered this car a special "Paint to Sample" to match his early RSR race car. The color was a early Porsche color called Albert Blue. It looked like a Sunoco Blue. Al kept this car for a short period of time then sold it to a good friend of his. I unsuccessfully tried to tract this car down.

What a great thread! I have a 930 I bought in 1998 from a collector in Seattle. Story was he was selling off some of his 57 car collection. I have the original docs from the Volkswagen dealer as it was built in 11/79 (I think) and delivered just before the end of that year. Was imported through Vancouver. I'm going to go back and look at my documentation. Never heard of the 'last 50' and I do not have a plaque or the signed document. I'll post my vin when I look it up later at home.
So, now that I've read through more of the thread I do have the small washers, adjustable bezels and I had the 85 mph speedo. I had Hollywood Speedo convert it to a 160mph a number of years ago but still have the original and documentation. I originally bought the car with roughly 4400 miles on it and flew to Seattle with my buddy (I was 28 at the time) and we drove it home. It supposedly had never really seen rain. Rained all the way home! Got home with 6000 miles. It has 20k on it now and has sat in my garage for the past 6-8 years barely being driven due to kids added to the equation. I've spent the past year learning to work on it myself and getting reacquainted with what I bought so many years ago. Minerva Blue and Cork. I have a Project Freiburg thread here and on Pelican. I've maintained the one on Pelican but unable to post pics here I let it lapse. I have lots of good info from the original owner I will try and scan and post.

Just went home for lunch and my vin is 9309801012 10/79. Purchased originally from Humphrey Volkswagen in Everett, WA on 11.20.79 but car was to be delivered in Dec per the receipt. Car was transferred to Humphrey VW on Dec 27 1979 and went to the owner on Jan 2, 1980. I have photo copies of the original document including the Importers and Manufacturers Statement of Origin To a Motor Vehicle. So not one of the last 50 but came in to the country very late that year. I was told but don't know for fact that the cars had to be in the country before the end of the year or they wouldn't be allowed in. Sounds plausible, anyone know for sure?

# 1200 is Charcoal Grey Metallic with a brown/tan interior. It has the adjustable headlight bezel and small washers. It has a 150 mph speedo; iI don't know if it's original, but it's been there for 52000 miles!
