What is 79 930 turbo signature addition?

The U.S. 1979 930 Turbo, #724 sold by Canepa also had a light red interior (Code 95) built during the 1979 model year. Note that the dashboard, window sills, door tops, and rear shelf, are color coordinated with the rest of the interior. Photos courtesy Canepa.com.

Another interesting tidbit about the black metallic ’79 930 in the 1984 Robb Report is that the ad listed a leather headliner. Although a black headliner was a no-cost option for U.S. 930’s in 1979 (code 469) a leather headliner was not available. However, in 1980, a leather roofliner in beige, dark blue, brown or black was an option for U.S. 911 SC’s. The Robb Report 930 could be “1 of 1” U.S. 1979 model year that was delivered with a two-tone light red/black interior and a black leather headliner. My 1979 930 Turbo window sticker lists Import Motors as the receiving dealership even though the Porsche + Audi stamps in my maintenance manual are for Car Barn. The Car Barn date stamp in the maintenance manual matches the Jan 25, 1980 date on the last 50 certificate signed by Ferry Porsche so the certificate dates must have been added by the receiving dealerships.
Import Motors was one of seven major U.S. distributors listed in the 1979 Porsche Audi Distributors Dealer flyer. In the late 1970’s, Import Motors was a distributor for Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi in Indiana and Michigan through 62 retail dealers that were independently owned. In the '79 flyer, Car Bar is the Porsche dealership listed for Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The late Peter C. Cook was the owner of Import Motors and his 62 dealerships must have provided him enough sales to qualify him for one of the last 50, 1979 Porsche 930’s. Peter Cook also owned a 1976 Silver Turbo Carrera with red interior with tartan dress inserts.
Like the dash plaques, the maker of the certificates and velvet-lined burgundy folders are not known. The certificates and burgundy folders are very high quality and the folders even include an original Porsche crest on the cover.

From my photo archives, images of 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo, 9309801175, sold from The Last Detail in Chicago in 2011. The claimed mileage was 6,317 miles but it did have a replacement 150 MPH speedometer. The car looked original except for the exhaust. Also note the two-tone tan and dark brown interior.

That is very cool, thanks for posting it. I wonder what it went for in the end? I have heard various #'s from people that were active with Porsches in the Chicago area back then, but don't have any documentation of the actual sales price. I keep hoping that the original buyer will come forward with some info, but nothing so far.

You’re welcome Dave. If you can find the original owner, you might also find the certificate and dash plaque for your car. Many of the certificates and dash plaques that were separated from the cars when they were resold may still survive today - stashed away in attics or basements.

1979 930 Turbo, last 50, light blue metallic with blue interior advertised in the February 1980 issue of Pano. This is a stunning color combination similar to the British RHD ’79 930, plate “Y JH 122T”. Are these cars stored away in a Raiders of the Lost Ark-style giant warehouse or just dust in the wind?

There is only a handful from this list where the owners are known and of those, I don’t know any for sale. 1185 is heavily modified and did not receive any bids when it last appeared on eBay in August, 2013. 1185 previously sold for $50K at Mecum Auction in August, 2012.

Idart,
I've been in the middle of restoring 1156 and remembered your question about the body ID number stamped on the dash below the radio. I have verified that this stamp does indeed match the writings on both doors and the top of the dash, all indication 1002197 (it's a little hard to tell from the pic).
I also thought that I'd include a pic of the unique color of this PTS car.
Thanks
Keith
