Default 1983 SC or carrera?? help

A apologize if this isn't posted in the correct section but i didn't see a non turbo 930 in this forum.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1983 911 all original with 90,000 miles in the island of puerto rico in which i would have to purchased and have it shipped to the US (NYC Region).
the car runs but has a few minor issues.
#1- high idle won't go down
#2- sun roof doesn't work
#3- 2 flat tires
#4- clutch pedal needs adjustment
according to the gentleman he's owned the car for 25yrs and hasn't modified or done anything to it. He told me over the phone to give him $18,000 for it and has clean title with no accidents.
he sent me 2 pictures (which are terrible) but he is a 70yr old man so i can't ask too much of him.. I am flying in to see the car the first week of october..

now to the point. I own two 1993 mazda Rx7s and a miata track car (not spec miata) so I'm familiar with tracking and working on cars but i dont know much about porsche in general.
QUESTION- current owner says he thinks its an SC 3.0 but doesn't really know why it says carrera and not SC.. again he's owned the car for 25yrs and he claims it came like that when he purchased it from the original owner..
Basically the point of this post is to get feed back from anyone who's willing to share their opinion or if this deal sounds fishy... anything i should be aware of or things i should check when i arrive? thanks

You would be looking for the 911 section of the forum.

An all original white 1983 SC for $18,000 plus shipping to USA is a fair buy.
Given its age it will need to see a Porsche shop to get back to running 100% which is not uncommon.

Also not uncommon for people to install the newer 1984-1989 "carrera" style wing from a carrera and put it on a 1978-1983SC. This is most likely why the deck lid still has the "carrera" badge on it. My car is the same story.
One look at the intake manifold will be the giveaway if it is a carrera or SC..

Things i would look for is paint work. A leak down test would also be nice to have before purchase.
