1978yr 930 turbo check oil level

How to correctly check engine oil level in a 930 turbo 1978 model. Long time ago, I was told to do it while engine is running. Now some people are questioning this methodology?
Oil fill up tap has a dip stick in it and usually I was just using it to check the oil level while the engine was idling: is it correct?

That is still the correct method Stanley... Obviously "some people" don't know what they're talking about.

Carry on!

Good Lord....it's a sump and the only way is to check at idle. Otherwise, you probably won't find much oil in the tank if not running,.,.then be tempted to add oil and eventually overfill. "Some" people should give advice to some other people. The true wisdom is here and on Pelican.

Check oil with car running and oil warm, it expands in volume as it warms up

Yes, ck warm so the thermostat has a chance to open and give you the true level. Checking and adding oil when cold is going to overwhelm your turbo seal and start spilling oil into the intake system, ask me how I know...

Ok, I'll bite....how do you know how? BTDT, not the first :-)

It seems to me after driving only a block the engine would not be warm enough to be able to check it’s oil level and if you are registering a normal oil level with a relatively cold engine it must be overfilled.
