Default 1979 RUF converted Turbo?

Hi

I just found this 930 Turbo that supposedly is RUF converted. Since I don't read German (I used Google translate) I'm not entirely sure that I understood everything in the ad.

However, what I have found seems a little bit odd. In the ad it says (if I understand) that it's a 1978 kit mounted on a 1979 car. Looking at RUF's web it says that the Five speed was only prototype in 1977 and was not sold until 1981.

Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out if this car might be worth the asking price or if I should back away? I have not seen the car in person and it's a long way to travel.

Any info about RUF converted Porsches in general is very much appreciated!

Looks like the car was manufactured in 78 as a 79 model. It was converted in the USA using Some RUF parts. I'm not sure the engine was upgraded to 3.4L as per a RUF engine conversion as the ad does not state that. It was twin plugged with a RUF 5 speed. Intercooler is a Kremer. Brakes look to be a Big brake kit from Brembo (which is what Ruf used to use) The car looks like is in decent condition but will probably need some reconditioning. Price is not crazy though.

Thank you. I spoke to the seller and he's going to send me COA and RUF's test protocol. No documentation from US though, which bothers me. I cannot get any carfax either since I only have the VIN and the old style of VINs doesn't work I think.

Maybe someone here can dig out some information from the cars time in US?

The VIN is: 9309800060 in case anyone feels like digging a bit

You can decode it here:

Being #60 off the assembly line, no doubt built in early fall of 1978 as a 1979 model year.

Thank you! But I was thinking more in the line of digging up information about what/where/how the car has been doing in the US. Facts about who owned it, who saw it, who bought it. What has been done to it, has it been in a crash... things like that would be invaluable to me and really hard for me to investigate myself. I was thinking that maybe someone here had some info about it.

The car looks like a good buy but I'd really like to know if it has a dark past.

Here is an ebay ad from 2015. Try contacting the seller on the ebay ad (he still seems active on ebay). https://www.ebay.ie/itm/1979-Porsche-930-/161729447783

Car is too old for a Carfax.
