Your best guess Re: repair costs
Newbie here, first post. BTW I have searched but I haven't been able to fine the answer to my specific question. I've always wanted a Porsche, especially a 911 and a turbo would be icing on the cake. I'd like to keep the purchase price under $40,000 which means I've been looking at the 1999-2004 model years. I've spotted a turbo 911 in my price range and under 40,000 miles but I'm afraid of the costs to keep it running well. I'm not asking for any crystal ball predictions, I'd just some opinions about whether I'm being completely unrealistic about buying one for $40k and maybe an average of $3000-$4000 a year maintenance costs. (My backup plan is a newer Cayman S)

I've heard many words of wisdom for buying a Porsche over the years.
"Don't buy a used Porsche unless you can afford to buy two" OR "Theres nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche" - meaning cost of maintenance can be huge if the car hasn't been maintained or you cannot obtain proof of proper maintenance.
I bought an older aircooled car about 4 years ago, and I spent $15k right off the bat fixing, replacing & upgrading things. You wont be disappointed with the performance of a turbo. Look for the best 996TT in your price budget. But be prepared to spend some serious money when something like a clutch needs replacing.Unless you can turn a wrench your self and save some costs.
Good luck with your search!

Until articles like this came out you could get a decent car close to what you have to spend. Anywho I think the first 996tt came out in 00'
