Unhappy vibration at 3000rpm prevention

Does anyone have information on obtaining (or the part number )for the tie bar that connects the gearbox housing to the muffler .This is supposed to stop the annoying vibration at 3000rpm when coasting.
The after market factory fix appears in a technical bulletin that I have from 1988.I have a 911 turbo LE 1989.only 40000miles
thanks

Since they are on different ends of the motor, it would seem odd that they are "connected". I don't have one on my '87.

Spudgers,
I have yet to see that piece in any car. Interesting as I have seen a few. It also doesn't show up in the parts book. Is there a way you can post a cleaner pic. I am not certain how the rod or support would really help the vibration. In fact if you have any vibration I would look to things such as tires, joint, wheels and possibly the tranny.

Interestingly I have had everything checked at Strasse by small Dave, the local porsche independent specialist, 30yrs experience. He said there was nothing wrong , everything within tolerences.he said he`s heard other 911`s much worse but hadnt seen this bulletin or the strut, and he said to try it.
It`s not actually a vibration like something is wobbling more a gear whine, but definately afrom the gearbox area, hence the interst in this strut.

Well I must admit I too had this problem (78 turbo). A distinct unpleasant howl between 2800 and 3100 rpm. Really noticable on the freeway in 4th gear when traffic slows down. Sounded like bad harmonics in the intake system, like the cams (964) and the intake tract were not in tune.

Funny thing is, I just had the car twinplugged at Andial (last week) and they did a little porting too. I noticed when I left Andial and got on the freeway it didnt howl anymore. And no they didnt add a strut. So I'm guessing my problem was some sort of weird reverberation in the intake system.

All I can say is its much more pleasant now @ 60 to 70 mph than it was.

Cheers to all, Paul

thanks for your input paul, just to add a little more detail to this vibration thing , I do not get it 100% of the time , but maybe 70% , which is very odd and is completely random as far as I can tell with no aggravating factors.Althogh the noise is definalely a gear meshing type sound.Shame I cant post a wav file.
