Gear Oil used in 930s for Track use?
Gang:
For those of you who are tracking your 930's regularly, and I mean more than 2-3 times a year, what kind of gear oil are you using in the tranny?
I have been using Swepco, but have been getting some grinding lately, so I switched to Mobil1 75/90 since I figured the tranny was close to a rebuild.
What are you guys running?

Thanks Brian. What brand and what viscosity do you reccomend on a type 930 tranny. I have a weak 3rd gear syncro and I was wondering if there are any oils out there that will help band aid this problem and minimize the grinding.

That's the exact problem I'm trying to address.
That is why I posted the question. I put some Mobil1 75w90 in, and it does seem to help.
But obviously, it is simply a matter of time before a rebuild is necessary.

FWIW,....when we raced 934's and 935's using the same 4-speed tranny, we always had the best luck with Swepco.
These cars had anywhere from 485 to 800 HP and we cured R&P failures using that stuff.
Mobil 1 is really better suited for cars using the Borg-Warner syncros (G-50's), not the Porsche baulk-ring type. Synthetics are too slippery for these Porsche gearboxes and result in accelerated wear since the Porsche syncros depend on friction to work.
I'd venture that either your clutch might be dragging a bit, or that you need a tranny overhaul.
