engine lid release help?
!987 911 turbo. Tried to open the engine lid to check the oil. Something snapped. The lid didn't release and now the cable can't be pulled. I assume the cable snapped or disconnected from the latch. How do I get the engine lid open and repair the cable.
Thanks.

EVERY ONE SHOULD CHECK THE CABLE CLAMP FITTING TIGHTNESS ASAP!!!
On the front I rear hood release!
They do come undone with time.
I had this happen on my 91 C2 Turbo.
Luckely Kevin told me the C2T's have a back up cable under the right rear tail light. (Porsche learns from there mistakes.)
I don't think you have this but you might check.
Your best bet I would have to guess might be to take off the muffler and fish up through the motor seal to get it open.
Maybe it is time for the carbon fiber rear deck & wing you have alwas wanted!
Good luck & let us know what you do.

Been there...done that....
Same thing happened for me, i pushed the net under the grill down a little bit, then i took a wrench (10mm) and weld a peace of iron bar to it, then it's just to bend it to the right direction and loose the two bolts that holds the lock.
Good luck, it takes some patience but i'm sure you figure it out!

Wouldn't be a bad idea to add an "emergency" pull wire like the later model cars. Something could be rigged up for the front and rear with stranded wire and hidden in the tail light, etc. Maybe a "to do" project this winter.
