Correct. That would be an improper use of tool. Worse than using your grandfather's Craftsman ratchet as a hammer.

I use a soft redwood stick that I split off of a 2"x6" board from redoing the deck.

Just tap it out, and you might even be able to re-use it.

I use it when I don't want to damage any metal parts.

Wait, so there is a inner lip to tap out from the front side of the hub?? I wasn't sure since the inside of the hub is smothered in old grease. I didn't want to start hitting things that might not be the Seal itself...

I picked up a Seal Puller last night, but there is no way I have enough leverage on the hub to pull it out right now. What I plan to do is bolt the old rotor back on the hub, and lock the rotor in a Bench Vise at my buddy's shop this weekend.

slight hijack

i'm not sure if my quote captured Russ' pic but you see the white piece with the horn contact ? is it called the clock spring ? I need that part, anyone know where I could score one ? my copper wore out and I have an intermittent horn . I " rebent it " so there is a different part touching the wheel and that seamed to resolve it , but just wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement

The hub/ rotor is off of the car? You can remove the outer bearing, and then carefully tap the inner bearing or if you can reach it, the dust seal. Usually the seal just falls out, and thre is no damage to the seal. I sometimes just re-use the seal if it's still good.

I would think there would be a large number of them available used at the wrecking yards. Maybe combine with other used parts to make shipping reasonable.

Yes the Hubs are off the car, and separated from the rotors now, so yes the outer bearings are out too. I'd be afraid to start hammering down on the inner bearing just to tap the seal out, but that might end up having to happen if all else fails. I figure I'll be able to pull it out with the seal puller once I have the old rotor back on, locked in a bench vise. I'm sure its not in there too bad, it's just me not having any leverage at all right now... I need my own workshop already

You are not hammering on the inner bearing race. Tap on the bearing or seal to get the seal out.

Apparently Bill Verburg knew you need to see my hubs and my seals:
