Hello,

I'm Joe, I'm new to the site. I've been gaining a lot of great information on the site recently. I have a 2001 966 Carrera 3.4 I love the car since day 1. I bought the car with 60k miles on it, a young gentleman owned the car and he turned it into a orange gt2 look alike. I mean to tell you he went the whole nine yards, then jumped over the left field fence with these silly parts and paint. I bought the car with one thing in mind, get her back to original. Luckily he did not mess with the interior/ ! My intention was to repainted to original or close, pull all body pieces spoiler etc, etc ETC. well I did. My painter was a middle of the road guy, maybe . But anyway after 1000's spent it's now descent in my opinion only, yes some overly affectionate orange can still be seen places along with middle of the road silver painter overspray. Now onto the engine, its been neglected, so ims replaced by the original owner at 45k. Then knucklehead got it and blinged it out , now I have it reversed back to stock form and I'm running into a problem with a cam sensor code with miss fires. I took it to a dealer and he ran that code, he suggested to let him change sensor and diagnose again. I left there went to a go fast Porsche builder and he said same , but he threw in a possibly vero cam in head could be the main culprit. So please help with any advice on what to do, and if I'm going in a good direction with getting this sweet ride back to full glory

As off today, I have started the engine flush process that the dealer made and the go fast Porsche builder. They recommend to dump this fresh oil today, only driven very spirited for 1 hour. So I dumped that Mobile 1 and filter. Now onto the second fill and dump today after another hour of high Rpm driving. I've now dumped 20 quarts of euro 0w40 Mobil 1. Reasons for all this is due to neglected air filter maintenance and oil maintenance and spark plug maintenance and coil maintenance that have not been performed on the car in years, then it was stored wet and put up nasty for years. I've changed the plugs, the plug tubes and the coils. Now I'm dumping oil, another 20 quarts is recommended,

Tar I just saw your 1977, that's beautiful Man. I want to get a air cooled 911 after I upgrade into a turbo Carrera, your 1977 looks like they took good care of it , seems nice in the pictures, I didn't read the entire post, I will read every word on this forum soon

This is the wrong forum for a 996. Shame on people not telling you before this. Much better info to help you in the water cooled forums. There is a specific 996 forum
Good luck

Getting her spotless for a visit to the doctors office for a complete checkup and to address a problem with a sensor, also going to look at some kit for the suspension.

With OBD II or a Durametric cable, you can actually see misfires in real time. I wonder if there are multiple cam sensors. I don't like throwing parts at a problem.
