1984 Targa Tire Sizes
I need a little wisdom concerning tire sizes. I have just purchased a 1984 911 Targa and am working with a shop doing a little work on it. The car has factory supplied 15 inch Fuchs on it, 7 inch rims in front and 8 inch rims in the back. The question is what size tire is appropriate for the car? I've checked the Porsche Classic Tire recommendations, and they appear to recommend Pirelli 205/50 in the front and 225/50 in the back. But in talking with the Pirelli guys, they don't think this is a good tire size combo for the car. So I am wondering if anyone else has been down this road before and if so, what tire sizes they ended up using? Thanks!

I'm sure there is a discussion here on Rennlist somewhere, but since this thread at Pelican is current, I'd start there: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...e-anymore.html

Thanks Mark. Yeah I found that thread after I posted, and it did contain some good info. Also, my Porsche dealer got me the specs on the OEM tires in '84, so that helped too. Nothing like a good tire education!

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the 16s like I have. Then slap 205 / 55ZR in front and 225 / 50ZR in rear. Will improve styling and handling.
