Default 1987 Muffler Replacement

Replaced the original muffler on my 87 Targa this morning. I went with a Dansk unit.
The fit was PERFECT and the process only took a couple of hours. Could have been faster except I took time to do some cleaning with Scotchbrite pads and WD40.

I would recommend this muffler if you want to keep the original look and sound of your 911.

Awesome! I'm up in the air with what to do with my exhaust.... Which Cat setup is that, and how much of an overall tone/note difference is there over the bone stock setup?

The cat bypass pipe is a Fabspeed. After adding it there was a slightly noticeable change in the tone as it picked up on more low frequency (think subwoofer) and the car seemed to run a bit better. The increase flow through the exhaust did cause the original muffler to sprout some pinholes. I chose the Dansk because Fabspeed said 5-6 weeks to fabricate which in the real world meant 2 months to my door. The Dansk was available and half the price.

The Dansk sounds almost exactly like the original muffler but yet I believe the car is running better. I drove it quite a bit today and am very happy with the near OEM sound.

There is a Dansk sport exhaust version which I was unaware of until I saw their catalog that came with the muffler. You might want to research that.

By the way, I replaced the flexible couplings and clamps to the heat exchanger (see red couplings) when I did this job.

The 3.2L engine has a very good sound one of the best on Porsche. Of course you can keep it closed to the original one. But if you change it for a super sound version, every run could be a great fun. We are exhausts producer in France specialized in Porsche for 14 years with more than 5000 Porsche equipped.
We sell this reference nearly every day, it is available on stock.

it sounds great, European growl, no teeth rattling or bone jarring, fits perfect with what I think is a nice looking stainless steel exhaust pipe. The muffler itself is aluminized steel. Pictures will follow.

5-6 weeks is Fabspeeds answer to everything lately. They don't stock anything and manufacture every order when ordered. I understand from their point of view, but as customers, 6 weeks is unacceptable and they will lose business. Who wants to wait two months for an exhaust when other companies have them in Stock.

I ordered the optional second exhaust pipe on my existing fabspeed muffler to convert my car to dual exhaust. We are talking 3 parts, a clamp, approximately a 10 inch bent pipe, and an exhaust tip. They have the clamp and tip on the shelve but have to manufacture the pipe. 6 weeks?? 6 weeks to make a pipe? Do they have one person doing all the work?? Their exhaust systems are very good quality, but their manufacturing time is ridiculous.

Agreed: Now I would like to put their Sport Cat in my 308GTS. I emailed them asking about availability over a week ago. No response at all. Time to find another supplier.

Hey Guys

Please understand that we are doing our best to get the lead time down. It is a blessing and a curse how busy we have been this year, as we have over 2000hrs of fabrication scheduled right now. Unfortunately it is not fair to any of the hundreds of people already on our schedule to bump them back, and then reorganize the fabrication schedule in order to prioritize one order (no matter how small and easy it may seem). It is unfortunate we cannot meet everyone's expectations, but in being in the industry this long we are confident in saying our products are worth the wait. Hopefully in the next month we should be dropping a week or so off the lead time : )

Archer911, we have a rather established relationship as I have PM'd back and forth with you several times. I have not received any PMs from you since early last month in regards to your 911, nor do I see any emails from you in my inbox. Apologies for the delay in a response from us. For future reference, please contact me directly for a more timely response. I am much more efficient than our general mailbox being distributed to various associates here at Fabspeed. My signature has my direct email, direct work number, and my cell phone. I'm available any time and would be happy to assist you on your 308GTS (nice car by the way).
