Default Targa top stowage

Now that I've driven the new SC for a few months, folding the top has become a challenge for me. It just causes premature aging, wrinkles and stress. After some careful measuring I discovered that the top can be stowed in the trunk unfolded if the brake fluid reservoir is moved about 2" outboard and the air plenum guard removed and eventually modified. Moving the tank was the project. As you can see from the attache pics, it all worked after a few hours of plumbing and metal rework. Why didn't the factory figure this out when they added the brake booster in 1975?

Default It rains in Connecticut now and then!

And our Black Lab likes the back seat so the top needs to be stowed aboard for those rainy days.

I always wondered if the targa top fit in the frunk. My 914 targa top did.

This shows you that you are much smarter than the factory was in the early to mid-1970s. Excellent job.

I have had plans on doing this for a couple of years now, thanks for showing us it can be done.

When I asked in another forum (full of bird brains) if it had been done before they said it could not be done and tossed a few insults my way.

Any possibility of a few close-up pics of the reservoir re-mounting hardware, and location?

Thanks In advance,

Gerry

except the fact that in 1974-1975 a hardtop was standard and the folding top was optional. The only problem was AC. aC equipped cars required a folding top. And most were still ordered folding so partway through 1975, because of poor demand, the hardtop was dropped from the line. I have one on my 75. And can stow it in my frunk.

Brilliant! It also fits unfolded behind the front seats, the real skill is in putting it there without getting out of the drivers seat.. :-)
