Default removing wheel studs

I got my self some 930 spacers at Hershey ( 1 inch ) along with some longer studs ( 1 inch longer go figure ) .

How Much of a pain is it to get out the old studs on a 40 year old car ? please don't tell me I will be getting my 5 lb sledge out.

oh in case you are wondering , I am running four 7 inch fuchs, so I thought pushing the rear out an inch would give the illusion of 8s.

The worst I've ever had to do was pull the steel studs on my 2.7 case. It took a stud puller, heat, wicking bees wax around the base (old machinist trick) and waking the stud with a hand sledge. A real pain but it worked. You may get lucky and just double nut them to turn them out.

I think you want to press them out with a threaded tool.

When you get it home widen the forked end with a grinder by just a couple mm. You turn a ball joint press into a lug stud press in a matter of minutes. Mine has been used on at least 4 local 911's and a 968. Money well spent. You can add heat to the hub, but I don't think I ever had to.

I'd show you a picture of mine but it's currently on loan to Ted, the 964 guy that started the "show me your 911" thread

Hey Doug thats funny .. check out the first response to your original thread .. it only took me 4 years to finally get around to it ...

now THAT is procrastination.

good tip on the press, I actually have a hydraulic press but im going to go with your method as I always destroy a few wheel bearings as Russ mentions till I get it right.

Pulling the hub requires destroying the wheel bearing, because the race comes out with it. I like Doug's idea because it looks straightforward and saves the wheel bearing.

Well I did have my seat cover removed to have it repaired 10 years ago. I got it back 9 3/4 years ago and its still in the box in my basement

If you have air tools you can knock them out fast with an air chisel with a pointed tip. Thread a nut on the tip halfway to keep the chisel from falling off the stud.

make sure you use the nut to capture the tip, and the nut will be junk when you are done so don't use one you care about

I figure I would double nut it and have one half hanging over the stud locked in place.

My wife doesn't have that problem.....to my knowledge.
