From my tire rack order here in the US:

205/55ZR-16 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R N0(Porsche)

2 In Stock $180.00 $360.00

245/45ZR-16 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R N0(Porsche)

2 In Stock $205.00 $410.00
Hrmmm. I wonder if I am doing it wrong with my front tire choice? At the moment I have a square set up on my car. 7x16 on each corner with 225/50/16s. Seems to work and look good.

Maybe the sidewall bulge is better suited visually to 205s in the front when the set up is staggered?

I just bought what was originally on the car. With the manual steering, and my dad getting up there, any additional tire width isn't a great idea. That is why I did not bother with the 8s. Muscling that car out of our driveway isn't all that much fun for him.

True, plus with a staggered set up, why would I need more grip up front on a tail-happy car? :P

I don't think you would. I have a metric TON of miles in the 930 around Sebring (and a few other places) when it wasn't nearly worth what it is now (mostly between 2000-2007). I never once had an issue with grip at the front with the 7s with the 205s (back then they were Khumos, maybe R888).

The last time the real fuchs were on the 930 was the last time it was on track - 48 hours of Sebring advanced solo DE in 2007. That was silly. I was out there as the only idiot without a cage or a 5 point harness -- all stock. I also corded, as in the radial is poking through, 2 of the 4 tires. I confirmed that last weekend at home. To be young with a Dad that likes taking photos....

Hrmmm, I said that because I had the page bookmarked here:

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUFUCHS169.html

So maybe they changed their site. But at the time I recall doing a quick search for 16x9s and I couldn't see anything past the 16x8s.

But no matter... I don't see why I need an excuse, I am happy as hell with the money I just saved.

I just noticed, your link is for 15" rims. I don't want the 15x9s.

Awesome shot! Looks like you have a metric TON of good memories!

Thanks for the help. I think I'll go with the 205s.

I just bumped into a guy today that just rebuilt an '86 black on black 930. It was stunning! He has aftermarket rims with 245s up front and 315s on the back! Pushing the envelope maybe.... but damn, did it look nasty!

There has to be a reason the factory went with the smaller tire on the front. I wouldn't want to muscle the car around on 245s in the front at low speeds for a street car, that would be a pain in the ***. Yes, indeed, lots of memories. At some point around 2003 or 2004 (I think) we had a collapsed cat or something to that effect (was actually at Sebring when that happened, bummer). So, we installed a billy boat exhaust to fix that problem. So, it makes a little more horsepower than stock.

In the stupid days I described before, when that photo was taken, I recall tickling like 145+ entering 17 at Sebring (but going way way too deep). Amazingly capable cars in near factory form.

What is the stock offset for 16x7 & 16x8 on the 78-79 cars?

This is the second time I'm seeing 205's on 7's. Don't our 6" wheels run the 205 tires on the narrow bodied cars? Why not just leave them that way. Is it more than aesthetics? Is there some performance gain to the wider rim?

For me it's just aesthetics. I don't like the look of the 6s... the fuchs petals are too proud compared to the dish of the rim. I like the petals inset a bit.

It is all about contact patch. On a non-street car, I could see more contact patch up front, but with the manual steering a bigger patch is a pain in the ***.

More negative camber and playing with caster helps alleviate this. My front end feels lighter than ever since I added more negative camber at the spindles.

Made a new strut brace yesterday that is almost 4 lbs lighter than the Weltmeister it is replacing. Now to figure out triangulation.

Default Maxilite repro fuchs

The wheels arrived today. I thought I would post some pics for anyone that is trying to make a decision. Essentially, they look amazing, and don't feel particularly heavy. They seem to be cast, as the fuchs flower is thicker than original fuchs at the back side. Especially the 16x7. Quite a lot of material there...

The other thing I noticed, is although the silver anodized part of the rim is smooth, it's actually made up of fine lines. Almost like the metal was machined and then clear coated. I have never seen mint condition original fuchs, and I am not sure if they have this finish. I thought I might add this detail for anyone that wants something resembling a perfect original rim.

Overall, I am very happy with the look. I like the traditional lip, and the petals are nicely curved like the originals. I found a lot of the repros have much "sharper" looking curves that just doesn't work for my liking. This winter I'll be sending my 16x7 square set up to get the silver anodized petal style so I have a different outfit
