Default 3.6 into 74 or stay 3.2ss

So ladies and gents I have a 74 with a 3.2ss-euro pistons, s cam, 46mm webers and I am thinking of doing a 3.6 swap into it. I have a local engine with all the paper work and recent top end work done. The car is used as a fun weekend car, track sometimes but just overall to enjoy and drive it. I'd say I easily will do 5-7k miles a year. So will the newer technology and 3.6 tq be worth it over the rev happy screamer?
The car is 2450lb wet, the 3.2ss has about 3500 miles since being built, transmission already rebuilt, car has 930 brakes all around and coilovers.
I'm looking for opinions, and yes she is already a mutant so not original.

My engine is a stock 3,2 other than the modern fuel injectors (running high octane)and my car weighs 130#'s more than yours and it's a handful. It in no way resembles it's bloated stock cousin's. I don't see the need for more displacement. Enjoy it as is. Maybe buy the 3,6 and shelve it a while. Right now it would only cause trouble.

It's not only about more tq but also a little bit better mpg, easy of everyday use. Just trying to see if the $$$ in swap are justifiable in the power/day to day ease of use. I am sure I will get both sides of the story. My girl has to go on a diet, current seats are like Titanic anchors plus still has rear seats and all that junk. Love the car, don't love the single digit mpg but that's also my fault

Well weight savings won't get you better gas milage....If anything it will cause you to gun it more often.

Can you sell the 3,2 to offset the cost? Can I ask the cost?

3.2ss with euro pistons,s cam, 46mm webers, ssi and etc( I'd sell complete or w/out webers)
Cost of the swap is roughly 5-7k , as far as the 3.2ss sale price, yes it would offset the 993 engine price.

Hmmmm, firstly, with your current set-up... you may need to play with the tuning of the carbs a bit, and with S cams you have to keep it up on the cams for the fun factor, or to keep it from loading-up in traffic etc.. part of your mpg issue.

Regarding the 3.6 cost of $5-7k... you mean for the swap parts/labor etc..? Cause that's not the cost of all unless you've really got a smoking deal working for that engine!!

For that same $5-7k... you could go ITB/EFI with a cam change and some tuning and have yourself a nicely running hot rod that would deliver smiles through a broader rpm band and deliver reasonable mpg.

Sounds/looks like a fun car with lots of potential either way... have fun!

I think we all know that the 5-7 ends up being more like 8..9..10
5-7 for ITB/EFI yes that's an option but will it really make a huge difference vs 3.6 which down the road would most likely end up with ITB set up?
The S cam does kick in around 4200 or so but the car drives nice, its set up more or less for track at the moment so the mpg is what it is. At the end of the day I'm trying to figure out what would make me happier and have me enjoy more miles with least maintenance.
It's like picking between a blond or brunette they're both fun but in different ways

I went with a 95 3.6 in my car after weighing in the cost of rebuilding the 3.2 with cams, head work and other engine goodies ... anyhow i ended up finding a very low mileage 3.6 and the swap was simple and straightforward.
Patrick and Timmins have all the necessary parts and support you will need and you will save a bunch if you do all the install yourself , including modifying the engine tin.
Honestly , i don't miss the 3.2 valve adjustments anymore and the stock 275HP @7000 rpm is nice !

Phil that's what I like to hear someone with a before and after. Timmins is very close to me in distance and already spoke to him, it's actually very inexpensive to have him do it. I think I will get the ball rolling sooner then later because it's almost March. I wish i had the time to do it myself but with 2 kids and job + business I have no time to sleep as it is.

blockhed;
Steve is a great choice.. he's been at it for while.

PM me you're contact info, as I know someone that may be interested in your current set-up minus exhaust.

Regards,

Paul

If i remember right , Patrick wanted something like $1100. dollars at the time for the modified engine tin, start looking on the Pelican or Rennlist classifieds for a complete used set, it will save you a bunch of money if you Supply it to Timmins , or even better if you modify it yourself ...
I have a bunch of pictures somewhere of when i did mine should you need some info !

At the same time , i would suggest you buy the Rennline stainless engine support which will be on sale for their yearly 15% X-Mas sale as there are two ways of installing the 3.6, i chose to do it with the upgraded 3.2 Rennline unit and don't waste your money for a fancy ( expensive ) twin coil mounting bracket , they fit on the engine support !
Trust me , anything you can do on your own will save you a LOT of dollars

Another thing , start looking for a 1 5/8 OD header system for your 3.6 , the 3.2 1.5 inch unit will not be as efficient , Timmins has all that for you for big $$$
