New 911RSR at Rolex 24 at Daytona
Hello Rennlisters!
As I'm sure most of you heard, Porsche recently updated their RSR by moving the engine forward (their press release avoids the word "mid-engine") in order to be able to utilize a larger diffuser. One of our colleagues' family is at Daytona and were nice enough to share some close-up photos of this incredible work of engineering. What do you all think, does Porsche have what it takes to take the crown this year?

The GTLM class has gone so far beyond the production cars it's just staggering.
A friend of mine on the Corvette teams says they've become technological projects.
The companies spend millions and millions of dollars on the cars and then IMSA comes down with the BoP to make them all absolutely equal on the the track. I'm not real sure what racing even is today.

and different induction systems (forced or naturally aspirated). It's also modified for several distinct track types and is varied among them.
I have seen some of the older data Stefan Ratel and the ACO have used to establish this superb balance across disparate platforms, and the study of the collected information is extraordinarily fastidious.
Is it always fair or even? Of course not. But look at the fastest laps for the GTLM and GTD cars in this race. Incredible the tight grouping!

After this weekend I look for the Cadillacs to get hit pretty heavy with a BoP adjustment.
IMSA is still maintaining that the Cadillacs weren't sandbagging at The Roar. If you believe that ......
One of he more creative techniques for the Roar was missing the apex. When iMSA downloaded they found several cars that never hit an apex in 2 days of testing. You have to just love that.

Thanks for the pics. I watched all the utube videos posted for the Roar and about 20 hours of the race on TV, and now the utube race ones are being posted.
Even though Porsche finished on podium in 2 classes, I wonder if they will eventually turbo charge the race cars to ensure dominance in IMSA and WEC? Personnaly I hope they dont you cant beat the natural sound of Porsche, caddy, etc non turbo racing motors.
I do love the new RSR.

No brand will be allowed to dominate the field. That's why IMSA uses the BoP. Everyone must have an equal chance at winning.
IMSA collected over 100 Gigabytes of data on each car. The BoP committee will be reviewing all of the data and will then make adjustments. It can be anything from the fuel flow rate during a pit stop to the amount of boot used at a given rpm.
Given the results of the race I look for Corvette to get a little and the Porsches have a little taken away. I don't think they're are going to be any significant adjustments.
Cadillac on the other hand .......
btw - I talked with one of the drivers today. It costs $250,000 for the weekend drive in P2. That does not cover crash damage. Most drivers carry insurance with a $50,000 deductible.
Isn't racing fun
