You're going to hell!

A friend of mine has just put SSIs and a Monty muffler on (77S). He really likes it. Personally I think it is a little loud, but it does sound good.
They're made down here in Australia and my friend picked it up from the factory. Well when I say factory I mean shed.........in the bush.
Rob (the friend) hang him to organise a pick up. He said I wont be home but I'll leave it outside so just put the money in the fuse box of the shed. It was just over $1000AU i think. That's about $750US

God, I need to get these. I bet everything sounds so good together !!

My heat exchangers are VERY rusted. Given I have not driven the car yet, just start it up now and then to keep the mice away. I would assume that a rusted pair would NOT be good to get too hot.
What sorts of problems that heat exchangers can cause, and why. Still a bit of a newbie..

my originals were completely rusted out .. I then put on a very good pair for a later SC during my build, then these SSIs popped up after I was done of course.

Out of curiosity I ripped open my completely rusted out set. The actual exhaust pipes were really rock solid and could have gone another 30 years.
The effect you have with rusted out exchangers is as holes develop you just bleed out heat. or you have very localized heat at your feet because the engine fan that is trying to push the air to the cabin leaks out all the holes.
Incidentally my son and I were out during the long weekend in the Targa with no roof. I had not hooked up the replacement exchangers heat at the back end at all . but I did hook up the front end as I put the engine in with new flex hoses.

We pulled on the levers as it was getting cold expecting no heat at all and it came blasting through. I guess the venturi effect of the targa whipping along was drawing air through the system we had to turn it down after 5 minutes as we were roasting.

I didn't even think of this! Could be the case with mine as well. Even still, I really should get a new set..

Ice,

Old thread I know but where did you get the 964 grind? Did you buy a set or did they modify your cams?

Had mine reground locally to a 964 grind. There is a place in california that does it but it was cost prohibitive with shipping and duties

I think they were called web cams

Was it expensive to have the regrind? Does it effect the CIS in any way?

500 bucks cad for both. I thought it reasonable
I have not noticed and cis issues. I need to put the exhaust on to benefit from cams. I may get around to it this year

Sounds like an OK price.
I better do some more research as to the effect on the CIS. I intend to go Carbs eventually so It'd be nice to get the grind that works best with carbs but will work with CIS till the Carby install time.
