What's the market like for an M491???

Looking to add an M491 to the stable.

Wondering what the market is like right now in regards to price I should expect to pay, etc.?

Also, wondering if anyone knows of any available? I found one with about 100K miles for $70K. Thoughts?

If it's a coupe in good condition, that is a reasonable price. Inventory generally pretty low for coupes. Cabs are plentiful and less desirable, therefore that would be on the high side for a cab. Seems like must inventory are guards red on tan cabs. Good luck!

I have a M491. Had it since 1992. It's a concours winner. High mileage 170k but it is cherry. It seems like $70k is a starting point. Check out eurofastcars.com in Monteray, Ca They are advertising a red cp 75k miles for $80k.

It seems to me that the market for M491s may be even more affected by condition than the valuations for 'standard' Carreras. But whatever it is, it is certainly strong, and will probably stay strong from now on.

By the way, here's a very nice red M491 right here on Rennlist with quite a lot of excellent upgrades: https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...k-porsche.html Be sure to open the PDF to see the work that's been done on this car. Oh, here's the build thread over on Pelican: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...b-project.html Sixteen pages!

Dang! I can't believe that this is my first post here... I didn't realize I was such a 'lurker' ... how embarrassing!

Holy crow. Has the market gone up on these things that much since I bought mine a year ago? I was thinking of $55k if I sold mine, but maybe I'm way off and on the low side.

Asking and getting are two different things.

I'm an M491 owner myself but these prices seem excessive, and getting close to turbo territory. I've seen Turbo Looks selling for the 50s, but wow...70-ish seems high.

No affiliation but This guy told me that car is a factory wide body.

Clean low miles original factory wide body are $
Guys people, are paying big $ for the time capsules and that is driving up,the rest.
Values are all over the map and very history miles and condition oriented
Top dollar cars need to be original

And clean original turbos are even bigger $. Look at Sloan. Take 20% off their price.

But most cars here are drivers. Probably mid grade vs collector grade. And that's a good thing in my book. Drive 'em

That describes my car to a T. It's not collector grade. Wouldn't have ever made sense to try and take my build that way - no history, was a daily driver for most of its life, original paint and interior were shot, etc. But, it's still a pretty rare car that I would have a tough time replacing. I've kept my eye on the M491 market ever since I bought this one and finding a coupe in any condition isn't easy.

Hi,

I recently sold my 87 M491 Cab which had 50K miles (great condition) for $65K, my asking price. I had numerous offers from collectors and dealer/collectors at $60K to $65K so the dealers are clearly expecting to be able to still turn a profit even at that price. I wanted a quick sale and I'm sure I could have gotten a bit more if I was more patient. I'm not :)

Details on the car I just sold in case you want to compare condition, etc - https://87m491.wordpress.com/87-m491...olet-for-sale/

Beautiful car.

Wow !! 70K seems quite high but who knows it might be a bargain if prices continue to be on this trajectory!! Helios 59 has a gorgeous example.

Thanks for supplying sales details, Jeff. We seldom find out what these cars really go for. Congrats on your sale!

Hi w00t! It's been awhile...I don't visit Rennlist that often any more. What P-Cars are you driving these days? Last time I looked, you were working your way through the entire model line! :)
