Default Gas smell

I have a 1982 911 sc 3.0 ect

I smell a gas fume smell smells like coming from drivers side , almost like as if its a loose cap gas smell

No viasable leak but gas dries quick i know

Is there any rubber gasket that dries up

Or anything like that or known issues?

Trying to find the source of the smell

Could be your fuel line in the engine compartment going. It is a common and known failure point. The rubber line goes over the top of the block and down the back of the engine. It eventually fails and starts leaking fuel, which can lead to an engine fire. Replacement requires a partial engine drop. Some people DIY it, others take to dealer (as I did on my '88).

You can sometimes see evidence of the leak on top of the block (left side, I believe) - look for streaks under the fuel line. My advice would be to not mess with this. It's a real issue - do some searching and you'll find some horror stories.

Look under the drivers side front wheel well for the evap. Canister. There are two rubber hoses that rot and crack
Also don't overfill tank coz that's where the overfill goes and leaks out

I won't debate the point on gas lines but this is really a Carrera issue. SC lines are pretty solid as a rule. That said with our cars age gas lines should be inspected fairly regularly.

Thanks for everyones help.

I really appricate it.

I regulary clean detail and inspect my motor, so theres no leaks in the back

I think but im not 100% sure thats more of a 3.2L issue. (hopefully lol)

plus i narrowed the smell down to the front drivers side.

I will inspect all tubes and canisters ects, hoses and rubber..

Its more of a fume smell. I'll check everything and report back.

Check the following:

Vent hose for a crack (similar instance with one of our 911's having a crack and sending fumes into the cabin)
Gas cap seal
Fuel pump hoses
Fuel tank breather hoses
Fuel Filter hose

Let us know if you find anything!

Here is the part

Can you point out the hoses you need on that diagram so I can look those up for you?

I believe it's 14mm rubber vacuum hose cut to length:

Vacuum Hoses

I can triple check and see if that's the right way to go tomorrow as we have an '82 coming in, but I believe that might work.
