Default Looking for Parris Rhone 90A alternator

Hello All:

I need to replace the alternator in my '89 3.2 which is going in my '71 914-6. Currently the alternator is a Paris Rhone 90A unit. After checking around it seems the rebuilt Bosch units are less than reliable and paris Rhone gets the nod as the unit to buy. Anyone have a good credible source for a new alternator? I prefer a brand new one that has been bench tested to make sure it works. If that price is astronomical, I would consider a solid rebuilt one so long as the rebuilder is honest and does everything that should be done to make the unit like new.

Thanks for any suggestions-
Michael

Why don't you just get yours rebuilt ?
Specify that you want the same one back and you'll be good for many more years ...

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil- I could do that if I could find a reliable source for a rebuild. I have checked with several shops thus far and they do not leave me confident they take the time to check and rebuild everything properly. The alternator came with the engine when I bought it 2 years ago. As far as I know it worked. However given this is going into a 914-6 and the alternator goes against the firewall and is a pain in the butt to remove once in the car, I want to make sure it has a good reliable alternator when the engine goes in.
Thanks,
Michael
