Default Record price for an SC?

$50K+ with a Carrera tail, wow !!

https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail.cfm...=FL0115-204134

Looks nice in the photos.

I remember 10 to 15 years ago Porsche's were the unloved car at the major auction events in the US.

50k is large money for SC...
I would have said $35k tops...
but then again, in time try finding a decent SC and restoring it for less...

Sign of the times.

Tell me if I'm wrong but to me it seems like there's quite a lack of good SCs on the market today. Several cars listed but either very rough or highly molested. The rough and molested ask in the high twenties, and rust buckets are advertised in the low 20s.

So I guess it's possible that people may be willing to pay top dollars for top cars (which I'm not sure is the case with the yellow one, but then again I'm a noob).

Good point.

The interesting (funny) thing is that "back in the day" we all looked for sunroof cars. In the US market the AC was there whether you wanted it or not.

FWIW; I sold mine last year for the same price. The car was ordered without a sunroof or AC. Had roll up windows too. The car was also well documented which, unless you like surprises, is the only way to buy one.

In retrospect $31K was cheap.

A couple of years ago I would have told you SC/Carraras were undervalued, but today, the market has exploded.

Whether this is a "bubble", or the cars have become "fully valued", or are on a sustainable appreciation curve is impossible to tell today, but collector car prices across the board are up sharply since 2011.

Really clean examples are being snapped up by dealers and collectors.

$31K for this car does not look out of line.

It is not only what folks are willing to pay it is also many are not willing to sell.
30k wouldn't buy my car, it's too much damn fun.

Default 911SC

I spoke with Mecum, apparently the exterior is a re-spray not original and the car has over 155,000 miles. No mention of a rebuild and the seats show wear according the Mecum guy, I did not notice in the pictures. The owner is a collector uses the car as a driver, his reserve is $50,000 did not sell at the auction. Unfortunately, the seller can not be contacted directly.

I saw that car at the auction and while it is nice, it isn't that nice, not $50K nice that is for sure..

It is not only what folks are willing to pay it is also many are not willing to sell.

Yep, a friend asked me why I don't sell my 88 Carrera & SCs, since they are selling for so much, I told him I couldn't replace them with anything that I would enjoy as much.
