Default I need help putting a price on an 86 Carrera..

I found an 86' Carrera with 160k miles ... runs "well" (I would want to have it looked at before buying) but we will assume it's in fairly good condition mechanically.

The entire interior would need to be fixed up, the seats are in terrible condition and there's no carpeting at all. The exterior is in mediocre condition and would need a new paint job and some minor body work.

Any rough estimate on value? I could post pictures sometime in the next week or two but I wanted to get an idea. The seller is asking $5500

Thanks in advance

Buy it immediately. The value as a parts car exceeds $5500 as long as it's a real running/driving car (not even necessarily well..) so it's a no brainer. Someone else will scoop this up behind you if you don't. Only exception is if you know/trust the seller that it's not for sale anywhere in the public sphere, in that case take some time for due diligence, but you almost can't lose.

Agree with Nathan1, just buy it. Sounds like a project so I hope that is what you are looking for.

Buy it and flip it to this guy for twice what you paid. Both will be making out like bandits.

I had a very similar deal about a month ago. I penciled things out and I'd have another $20k into a car with 180k on it so I passed. I need a big project like I need a hole in the head.

Thank you for all the responses!! It's certainly very tempting.

I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere... it's not even listed for sale and if it weren't for those sexy headlights I would never have even noticed it. It's tucked away in someone's yard and I actually had to go up to their door and ask if they would even consider selling it.

He took me for a ride and it seems to run pretty much fine... what's to expect for mileage capabilities on that kind of engine? Is it possible to get past 200-250k?

I know "anything is possible" but is it REALISTIC?

Again, thank you for all the responses.

It's a smoking deal at $5500 but if you want a driver and not a project may not be the right car. You could easily spend $20k or more on car to get it where you want it. But if you want a builder to do as you see fit sounds perfect.
