I want a 911 3.2
I have a 964, but I want the GERMAN TANK! Screw the vaunted G50 transmission, if I can save $3-5K, I'm fine with a 84-86. Gotta have a coupe. Love my 964, but please try to convince me that the 911 3.2 is not the way to go. I know 964 values are absolutely skyrocketting but so are the 3.2s...right?

Hi,
I have both, are you selling your 964 to get 3.2? If not then keep both.
3.2 more visceral, no power steering, firmer suspension, AC sucks, easier maintenance (no OBD required).
Mine is G50 so shifting is easy (as it should be), I test drove a 915 & didn't like it as I have to pause in neutral when downshifting from 2 to 1.
If I have to choose one then 3.2.

I have a black/black 1986 coupe, I love it! I have no complaint about the 915 tranny, it works for me. Porsche greatly improved the A/C for 1986. I live in south Texas where it is hotter than hell, the A/C works fine.

After a long search and wait for the "right one" I picked up a '84 3.2 last fall and I just love the car. I The 964 is more refined and easier to drive but the fun with the 3.2 is being more connected, you have to think about shifting, work the manual steering and 3.2 will reward you in kind. A good 3.2 is hard to find and prices for a good 3.2 in our region are rising quickly.

Hey, just bouht a 3.2 cabriolet in black 1985.
Love the old school feel.
The AC does not work, and I was wondering if the belt to the compresor sucks some HP?
Would just eliminating that belt give some HP back?
I'm up north and the AC is secondary to the experience.
Thanks in advance

well the AC belt should be on a clutch so shouldnt suck much HP. Taking the belt off will clean things up however . If your not going to use it the real gain is in removing the 70lbs or so in components.

There are aftermarket companies that do retro-fits, and apparently they actually work but for big $KKK. Unless you are planning on touring the gates of hell, I wouldn't bother... most Porsche guys don't really place much value on the A/C in these cars one way or another.
BTW, I notice that when I turn the heat on in my '84, the car actually gets colder... so maybe the trick is in the Summer, turn on the heat... this may help.
