Peter Zimmermann is THE go to guy for all things technical for us DIY guys that refuse to pay others to work on our toys. That book is money well spent.

When I was looking for my 911 I looked at dozens of cars and they all seemed like overpriced, under-maintained junkers. I went ahead and purchased the cleanest car I could find and enlisted Peter's help in sorting it out. Pete assured me every step of the way that the car wasn't gonna brake just because I was nervous. They are tanks. Today, seven years later, I have one heck of a hot rot that puts I smile on my face just looking at it. Fire it up and I'm 19 all over again.

great information! I too thought I knew when I bought my first corvette. It was a beautiful car, low miles, well taken care of but had an issue with the title since it was bought out of state. Kept it a year and sold it due to disappointment paperwork. Did brake even on the price. No the learning begins again, this time im more cautious, and will research more.

You're off to a great start with the Used 911 Story!

Keep an eye on for sale sections both here and on pelican. Reading through ads and reading people's responses - as well as identifying which cars sell and which don't - gives you an idea of what sellers are offering and what people are buying/concerned about. I did this for probably a year until I was actually ready to buy... and then emotion took over and I fell in love with the first car I saw in person! I like to think all of the research leading up to it helped me buy a good car without needing to shop around very much. I knew exactly what I wanted, and when it came up I jumped on it. No regrets, best purchase I've ever made... period.

People say that the hunt is half the fun. It isn't. Driving your 911 is WAY more fun, so when you're ready, do it!

This is kind of a broad question... like "I want to get married, what do you suggest?" So far you have narrowed it down between a $150K 911S concours car and a $7,500 bondo-filled fright-pig.

IMHO, first thing is to set your priorities... how are you planning to use the car... is this a show/collector car or a driver?

What years are you interested in? What is your budget?

This will help determine your best options.
