84' widebody (m491) 3.6 twin plugged

Guys....question on value. I am inquiring on this car which has come to my attention. Its a bit of a frankenporshce, but nicely done. Sorry, no pics that I can post since they are pdf format.

The car
84 m491
Paint - 9.5 out of 10
964 body kit
3.6 twin plugged
cyntex engine chip
3200 miles since rebuilt
Fiske hand forged racing wheels
cold AC
Billy Boat SS exhaust
Adjustable Bilstein sport shocks and struts
Racers group sway bars
Sway away spring plates
22mm front torsion bars
29mm rear torsion bars
blaupunkt radio
New rubber
RS doors
Power sport seats
5 speed short shift

Supposedly a collector car for past 10 years

I know its not for everyone, but it seems well done.
Any help on price / value for this ?

I would venture 20-25K since the cost of the 3.6 transplant is 10K alone and the car is a M491 true wide body with the 930 brake package. The car has a lot of additional stuff that costs a lot of $$$ so if the condition is good ,go for it !

Cheers
Phil

Thanks for the input Phil

Well....I confirmed with Norbert (turbo look registry) that it is NOT an authentic factory wide body. Given the mods done to that car, it probably does not matter all that much anyway. I think i'll shoot the guy an offer sometime tomorrow contingent upon a PPI. I will say, he wants more than 25k and he may not even come back to me after my offer....we shall see !

There's nothing wrong with Frankenporsches by the way ... mine would be a perfect example as the only thing left that's original are the two doors, minus the RS door cards ... lol
If it's done properly it costs a lot of money and the guy is most likely taking a big loss on the sale of his car,i know for a fact i would never get 60K for mine !

Keep us updated

Cheers
Phil

I'm not sure how you would even put a "964" kit on an M491 car anyway?

I think it's tough to put a value on frankenporsches... I agree, nothing wrong with them and there are certainly some great examples out there of tastefully, professionally completed projects. They are usually built specific to the desires of a single individual though, and selling means finding someone else who values what has been done to the car in the same way the owner does. Very subjective... so the question becomes (in my mind) what is the cars value to you as the potential buyer? If you pay more than this, you won't be happy with it. If the seller isn't willing to part with it for this, then you aren't the right buyer.

Yes...for some reason I've always liked whats 'different' when it comes to just about anything I've bought.....houses, cars, bicycles etc. While there is certainly a thinner market for these items, I've never had a bad experience with selling my 'different' things.

I am in contact with the seller......so far, we are not too far apart, contingent of course on a PPI. We shall see how it works out. Thanks for the input....

Guys......I'm still on the fence on this car.....give me more input, good, bad or ugly.
I've seen plenty of 3.6 transplants go in the $30k plus area, but does the 964 body kit really take this down to $25k ?

It's like marrying a stripper.

If you love her, the past doesn't matter... If you are having doubts... well, what's that tell you?

IMHO, if you have to ask what this car is worth, it isn't worth it to you.

For $25K you can buy an absolutely beautiful, no-excuses original 3.2 Carrara... a great car that will run all day long, and do nothing but go up in value.

This car is like a trip to Vegas... if you think dropping $10K at the tables is a great time, go for it.

My 3.6 transplant cost me close to 15K and i only paid $7000.00 for the engine and i did all the work myself.Factor in the Fikse wheels for another 3K,the cost of the wide body conversion and the exaust system and you're already easily at the 20K mark ...

If the rest of the car is costing you 5K and it's in decent condition,it's a win,win situation !

Just sayin ... lol

Cheers

:roflmao:

Seriously, eye-test will tell you whether the work was done to a high standard, or just a thrown together fright-pig.

If the work is A quality, then treat it as a hot rod, and hot rods are cool... but its impossible to "value" hot rods, so my point is.... what's it worth to you... if you like the car, and the car was done right, then you are buying a lot of expensive mods at pennies on the dollar.

I have a 1971 Corvette and it is a MAJOR pole-dancer... cam, headers, Edelbrock, Holly carb, tramp-stamp... can't take it to NCRS, (or mom for that matter). Can't drive it in polite company... and my wife HATES it...

Boy is it a hoot to drive.
