Default First Paint in 27 Years

One, or both, of the last two PA's (Texas and Oklahoma) buffed so long and hard they got to the primer in dozens of spots. The finish was just plain burned off. It looked fine from 20-feet or so but, then again it looked a little dirty even when it was clean and polished.

As a daily-driver from a dirt road I decided it was OK - the car is dirty more than clean and, I figured, painting it would just cause me grief upon the first chip. That thinking lasted just over a year.

Thanks for the new Carrera script, Joe Bob. I'm painting the raised "Targa" and "Carrera" script on the bar and engine bay to match it. It oughta look good.

Black gloss car as before and gloss inner wheels; satin targa bar. I am sweating bullets until the outcome is known.

Dan,
I'm sure it'll look fantastic when it's done. Can't wait to see it.

Can't wait to see the finished product

While they have it apart up front, ask them to check for rust and crud between the washer fluid tank and fender well.

Given the fact that you are reapianting and on a dirt road, you should get a clear bra installed ASAP! You should do the entire front end, rocker panels, lights and front flare of rear quarters.

I am leaning this way. What's your brand advice?

(Last year I put in a new set of headlamps and covered them (and foglamp glass) with Xpel polymer; that stuff is fantastic. It's about as thick as Cee Bailey velcro-on hard covers I've used on cycle headlamps but Xpel is a flexible wet-application stick-on "film". Wish I could cover my windshield with it. )

Reassembly of bodywork and buffing stage; targa bar tonight or tomorrow. Paint was dry but looked wet; that's encouraging.

I am surprised that the mirrors did not get disassembled to be painted separately.

They were separated from the door panel and suspended to paint and dry.

Raised targa and Carrera script should match interior and Carrera side decals.
