'87 Carrera Front Torsion Bar Cap: Floating?
With my fingers crossed, there will be a picture attached with this request for help showing the end cap and adjustment bolt. I'm re-inserting my front torsion bars after an off-season of modifications. I'm attempting to set an initial ride height but can't get both front sides to the same height if a lock down the end caps of each side. If I let the end caps "float," I am able to set the ride height. It does not seem right to allow the end caps to move as the torsion bar moves. It seems they should be locked down which is essentially turning the end cap until the piece where the bolt attaches the end cap touches the housing. But when I do this, I'm limited to what height setting I can get. Is the torsion bar end cap allowed to move when the torsion bar moves? Thank you for any guidance you can provide. Dan

with the car raised sometimes they float - the "torsion" will rotate it and lock it up tight to the adjusting bolt
if one is off from the other I think you can pull the bar and rotate it one click on the splines (the ones in the very front of the a frame) - the rear are offset on each end, not sure if the fronts are - or if there was just a random "clocking" end to end as it doesnt matter since they are more adjustable

Thank you for your feedback. It freaked me out a little to see the torsion bar cap moving when I raised and lowered the control arm; my initial indication was that there should be zero movement of the cap. After a couple hours of playing, adjusting, reading your feedback, and re-adjusting, I think I understand it. I lowered the car to the ground without the caps attached. The car was basically resting on the front tires. I reached under and inserted the caps onto the torsion bar ends and turned the adjustment bolts until it raised the car to the height I desire. I think I'm on the right track now and can tweak the adjustments accordingly. Now it's time to tweak the front wheel alignments after the installation new bump steering kits. Thank you very much for your feedback. It was greatly needed.
