No emissions testing in Michigan so no concerns there.

Great point about the VIN and insurance. I guess it would be smart to get the VIN and ask for an insurance quote well ahead of an offer.

Thx!

In all but the strictest states (CA and a couple of others) it is pretty easy to get an emissions waiver on a car over 25 years old.

Called the dealer this afternoon. Asked about any mechanical work the car needs and they said it drives great but makes some noise shifting from second to third so may need a gearbox overhaul at some point. I will probable pass on this one. It's already in the upper range of what I am looking to spend so major work like this may blow the budget.

Wicked smaht. Good luck finding the right one.

This car is still available and I am considering making an offer. After researching the gray market stuff, it reallly doesn't concern me much.

I will definitely get a PPI before an offer but, assuming all else is OK mechanically, what would it cost on average to get a transmission rebuilt on a car like this if it does need that?

Seems like one should plan on $5-6k for a trans rebuild, but GTgears can speak to that much better.

FWIW, my '78 was a euro (gray market) car. Only state that mattered was the original one the car was registered in. All subsequent states, registration and insurance proved a non event.

With a nice big meaty intercooler, I'd look for evidence of a twin plug conversion, or maybe at least a larger turbo.

While my 930 experience is limited, they are crazy fun when the boost kicks in.
