Why? Some people still want their street 911s to still fuction, well, as street 911s.

Anyway, yesterday the winning Spec 911 (Tom Van Overbeck, yes Johannes' dad) blitzed the field at Sears Point carrying his normal max'd out 150 lbs of trophy weight in the ~2400lb. w/ driver class. So he's 1 second clear of the field with basically a passenger riding along.

Specifically, he ran a 1:49 flat in warmup (car on RA1s), while later in the day while we were sort of paying attention the the GT3 Cup race (you know, those spiffy sequential box '10-'11'-'12 cars) the bulk of the field was in the 1:45 range.

My friend's GTL (open chassis, stock 3.6, field agreement to run Goodyear bias plys) carries 350 lbs. ballast to make class minimum @ 2350 lbs. Without the ballast, it's 3mph faster up the front straight at Thunderhill (132 v. 135, from a ~78 min speed coming off of T15.)

I think ShakinJo is just poking! He knows what I ( and you) know,..she's a bit faster with less weight. I actually loaded up the under-bonnet area with my spares kit and few other things for the corner balance and alignment, so she was FAR from stripped of any [needed] weight to be a hiway gal...asked that they take her as I delivered her,..not disturbing anything to do with the under-bonnet layout. Straight up street approach on this one.

Race911: that's been my call on this particular girl,..to keep her as stock as possible, maintaining a peaked (Wonged) street car. The only thing left to make her (perfectly) viable as such, would be addressing the AC (more weight?).

I noticed the Porsche sticker (weight) values on the door,..it shows:

GVWR: 3417 lbs.
GAWR-FRONT: 1433 lbs.
REAR: 2094 lbs.

What is this stuff? Just curious.....

Still working at getting this frikin' coating off of the new wheels,..then I can gauge this new "sense" of these new turbo tie rods........she definately feels different as to the steering "feel".....

Thanks for the comments/input, guys.

BEST,

Doyle

Mine weights 2667 with 3/4 fuel. Also corner balanced, it has factory sports bilstein, is just renewed them last year and fitter turbo tie rods. Its a street car. It has no aircon, and only the driver seat is electric. Mirrors not electric. Its a 1987 German spec car and has option 220 (40% locking differential). So i think they guy who bought it in germany back in '87 want a as light as possible street car to use seriously on the roads.

My use is quite serious, as well,...she's balanced for trips (loads)..I could shed a couple of hundred pounds from the bonnet,.but I'm not about to strip out a perfectly working AC,..seriously? Save that for a different car....I guess. COme on, it's a Silver Anniverssary Edition,..it's gotta' have have the bells...

BEST!

Doyle
