Default rear window defroster - tint removal question

Does anyone know if the rear window defroster "wires" are sandwiched between the glass or stuck to the inside of the rear window? I'm guessing it's stuck on the inside, as my other cars seem to be.

My car's glass is tinted (aftermarket film) & I can't tell. I'm thinking of removing the tint, but if peeling the film off is going to possibly damage the defroster, I'm going to rethink that idea.

All defrosters are glued to the surface of the glass. Just use lots of water or windex. Soak the crap out of it and don't use anything sharp.
