Convince me to sell my C5 and buy a 911
Hello there everyone! I have a 98 Corvette and it's been a great car for the past 7 years. But, I've always wanted a 911. I've always thought they are the best looking car out there, and have loved them for years (my favorite Matchbox car was a silver 930!) I am zeroed in on the '84 to '89 years, and would like to find a cabriolet (I like the convertible versus the targa). So I need to hear some positives of owning the 911. Believe me, it won't take much to convince me. I could get out of the C5 and into a 911 for not much more money, which is a good thing. It would be a summer car only, and probably be less than 3k miles a year (I take the train to work). Let me hear the good and bad! Cheers!

Now you have a Corvette and think about owning a 911. I think when you get a 911 you will not think about Corvette's. A modern Corvette has no soul and ages but a classic Porsche is timeless.

A couple of years ago, I sold my 05 C6 Corvette and purchased an 87 911 cab. I always wanted an air cooled 911 and thought it was time to make the move. Best decision I could have made. The 911 is a very special car!

We are not here to convince you .. Just go test drive a few and the car will do the convincing.. but keep in mind it isnt for everyone .. you may find it underpowerd compared to a 10 year newer V-8 . Depends what you are looking for..

Not to sound snobbish but, a Porsche 911 and a Corvette are cut from two different cloths. (yea, I owned a Vette before I knew better and got into Porsches) Dump the Vette its only gonna depreciate forever. A air cooled 911 will only go up in value. Check out Hagerty's prediction........."Our German Index continues to defy even the most optimistic projections. Pushrod 356 Speedsters are where four-cams were not long ago. For that matter, nearly anything air-cooled from Stuttgart is hot."

How about a picture of your C5??

I think it's good to try something different. You will either regret that you hadn't gotten to Porsche quicker or you'll regret selling the C5. Either way you win because if you buy a nice Carrera, you will not loose money trying to sell it, and if you decide to get back into a C5, then you will do so with vengence.
The Carreras and really any of the air cooled 911's really are special. I think you will like it. If you think you will miss the power of the C5, then you may want to get into a turbo.

test a well sorted 911... buy from an enthusiasts. There are plenty of sloppy 911's out there and you won't be impressed, but once you find one that talks to you and no stories.... you'll never go back.

I think you just need to drive a 911 - really. I've instructed in a few c-5's and z06's. Once you get past the giddyness of punching it and seeing that big hood rise and the push back into the seat -
Don't like the dead spot in the middle of the steering - don't like the big hood. With the 911 you feel like you are sitting on the front bumper. Even the Z06 feels heavy.
Don't get me wrong - the Corvette is an awesome car - very fast - very competent. Really gets up to speed quickly. Love the LT1- LSX series of engine - torque for days. Easier to drive fast. Parts at your local store.
Conversely - going into a corner in the 911 - where you feel every undulation in the road, tossing the back end out as you are getting on the power to sling shot out of a corner as the tires hook up... that's one of the epiphany moments - yeah I get it...
