3.0 RS Info
Does anyone have a good source of information about the 74 3.0 RS? I've been trying to do some reading about this car and can find very little information.

John Starkey's book "Porsche 911 R-RS-RSR" had a chapter about it. The book is out of print, but here's the link to it on John's site - http://www.johnstarkeycars.com/pages/books/911_RSR.html

The 74 3.0 RS was a homologation run of 54 cars. The car was essentially a '73 RSR chassis, G series body with the '73 RSR flairs, a 3.0 single plug MFI engine. The cars had duel masters and reservoirs, duel fuel pumps, forged front cross member, transmission oil cooler in the FL fender. They came with 8 & 9 x 15 Fuchs. They also had steel RSR trailing arms, and 917/2.8 RSR calipers with the finger style parking brake. At least one had the factory install a sunroof after FIA inspection.
I have many detail photos on another computer, let me know if you would like some details.

Just a few notes
the 911/77 aluminum block engine w/ 4 bearing cams and spread head studs was the first publicly available use of what would later be called the 930 block and head design, the later '76/77 Carrera 3.0 was the next n/a use of this engine.
to create a modern version start w/ a Carrera 3.0 engine(second choice would be an '80-83 3.0SC engine), use S cams and S MFI, w/ forged 9.8 Mahle pistons
Chassis is '74 w/ 9" & 11" flares f/g G series f/r bumpers, f/r hoods, r w/ 2 versions of the early whale tale(1 short street/1 long IROC), Glaverbel side(fixed) and rear glass, thin steel roof, floor, Instrument & door panels. street version had 8 & 9 x15 5 bolt Fuchs w/ 215/60 & 235/60 x15
according to Starkey 109 were sold, 50 were bult as race cars, another 15 were purchased by Penske for the IROC series(the IROC cars were fitted w/ the 3.0RSR version of the engine and delivered w/ ducktails which were swapped out for the long version whale tail.
the suspension was 19/26mm t-bars, 18/18 non adjustable sways(w/ mono-ball joints), Bilstein shocks, in the rear the short trailing arm w/ relocated mounts first seen on the late 2/7RS and 2.8RSR were used w/ mono-ball pivots, for race use steel or Ti auxiliary coil springs were added
brakes were the 2.8RSR 4 piston Brembos w/ dual(17/22mm) master cylinder and adjustable balance bar fulcrum,

Here are some I had on my iPhone, I will have to get the camera shots off a backup drive.
The homoligation cars had to have unique parts stamped with the cars vin # for inspection. FIA was getting smarter.
